Playing absolute rubbish yet seemingly undroppable and picked ahead of better players.

One hopes that Pulis saw that putting our best central midfielder, Delap, alongside Whelan in the middle was just as adept defensively as a midfield of Diao and Whelan.

Have to agree- I mean he'd never sub him if he was playing poorly would he.
Cresswell a regular and undroppable these days of course as well.

Before Saturday, Diao's performances have been fairly anonymous, bordering on not very good. Against Middlesborough though, he was absolutely dire, and any player who performs like that after such a run of patchy form (and that's being kind) deserves to be dropped.
I've given TP the benefit of the doubt on Diao so far, but if he's in the starting XI against West Brom then yes, you have to say that we'll be witnessing yet another legendary "I know best" display of stubborness, that could potentially cost us points.
As Pulis seems to have finally seen the light with Cresswell and dropped his little pet from the matchday squad, I am slightly more hopeful that our manager has turned the corner and will be a little less inclined to stick with his old-favourites no matter what.
After all, it really was plain to see that Delap and Whelan worked better together than any other pairing against Boro, and Amdy Faye has hardly put a foot wrong either in recent weeks. There are plenty of other options than sticking stubbornly with Diao, so hopefully Pulis will realise this???

Diao made the assist in the first half that Beattie really should have scored from. Anyway if a few negative prix want to start on someone else now they haven't got Cresswell to kick around I guess we shouldn't be surprised.

He can also get forward to threaten on goal on occasion as well and still has the energy to get back. IMO he and Whelan should be our central midfield pairing.

For me ever since Ethers arrived it was always going to be (once we had them all available that is) Liam Whelan Rory Ethers It's solid, well balanced and gives us options going forward.

whelan by a country mile, delap or whelan is a no brainer! what quality does delap offer on a football?? none! i admit hes a great hard worker and breaks play up, but when in control what does he do?? whelan is twice the footballer than him You're kidding? Whelan doesn't have half the footballing brain that Delap has. I'm no critic of Glenn's, he's put in some good performances for us and it's nice to have a player in midfield who's actually a threat from outside of the box, but the simple fact is that Delap is the better all-round footballer by a long way. His reading of the game is second to none, I can't understate it, he's always the first man back when the opposition break from any set piece and he always finds himself in the right place at the right time. I remember 'boro breaking on us once or twice yesterday and we'd have been knackered without Rory...though having said that, they had King, Alves and Tuncay up front, so maybe not. Whelan admittedly has the better shot and is a threat around the box, but Delap gives the front men more support. I think he's suffered from his games out on the left and right where's he been able to do his work defensively but hasn't looked as good on the ball because he doesn't have the pace or tricks to beat his man. Whelan's no different in that respect. Whelan is capable of putting his foot on the ball and taking a bit of sting out of the game, but Rory's no mug with the ball at his feet and he can carry it forward just fine. He doesn't have the same eye for a killer ball as Whelan, admittedly, but he does a stirling job in the middle. That's why it infuriates me that people are desperate to jump on his back as just a big throwing machine with no footballing ability so as to conform to the media stereotype. It's just not true, Like I say, Whelan is doing well for us right now, but he's not as good as Delap. I know a Wolves fan who says Seyi is a really good player Jamo...but only once every ten games.

Whelan better than Delap????
Oh my goodness, have some people started drinking early tonight?
Delap is a super player. He has tremendous intelligence, as well as ability with the ball. He is our most underrated player.
Whelan is good in spells, but then disappears for a while.
Delap and Whelan in the middle is worth trying at West Brazil.

And yes, as you said Deano, Whelan and Delap could be a good match. Different types of player in two good players playing alongside each other, better all round midfield.

That midfield does seem our all-round best to me. Can't disagree with you there. Hopefully Etherington will act as a get out ball so that we spend slightly less time hitting it forwards to Beattie/Fuller only for the ball coming back to us 5032 opposition passes later.

Spiderman - why do you only surface to post negative threads? Do you have any positive thoughts you could share with us please? Are we not allowed to question the team selection or tactics now? Hang on I’ll go to Specsavers to buy some of those rose tinted glasses pretend everything is fine and no one in the team is out of form or unfit.
