Very impressed with Dowd yesterday. A referee with real spine who wasn't afraid to put the prima donas in their place. Booking players for diving and having the guts to send off Rooney for the typical acts of petulance that usually go unpunished. The only stain on his day was that Ronaldo didn't go for his constant dissent and that awful revenge tackle. If he'd been Andy Wilkinson and Roy Hodgson was Arsene Wenger, we'd never hear the end of it in the press. It's just a shame that he was booked and retrospective action can't be taken. Regardless, he didn't give any special treatment either way and treated the players with no favouritism and no favours.
I notice that Phelan and Ferguson have been having little digs at him in the press, Phelan said last night that the referee wasn't in control of the game. So far as I can see, he refereed the match very well indeed. Unfortunately, Ferguson will make sure that Dowd either:
a) gets struck off the Premier League list b) does not referee another Manchester United game c) does not get awarded any of the big games, the cup finals etc. Only lapdogs like Chris Foy get given cup finals, else Ferguson vetoes them.
What a sorry reflection on the game it will be if that happens or if either of the red cards are overturned. I'd be having a word with them over the conduct of their players when Rooney was sent off, if I were the FA. I'd also stick an extra game on Rooney's ban.

At least Dowd will start his enforced retirement in the knowledge he is the best ref in the country.

What pisses me off about him though, is his apparent joy he has with booking and sending off players. He has a genuine smirk on his face every time he brandishes a card.

Ronaldo and Pantsil should have walked as well but other than that he had a terrific game. It's about time someone had the balls to stand up to Rooney.

I wouldn't say best Ref but he's the only one with bollocks to stand upto Man Utd's cheating. I'm amazed it's taken so long, but then again.

Wonder if he's a Stoke fan ? Well done anyway Phil - Nice one ! If he was a Stoke fan then he shouldn't have sent them off because afterall our relegation rivals have yet to play them. I was dissapointed to hear of them walking.

Don't think he is a Stoke fan and judging by some of his officiating in the pre season Castle matches he deffo ain't one.

If I was booking and sending off ManU players, I wouldn't be able to hide my delight. ;D I loved it when the MOTD commentator said after Scholes' dismissal 'the rest of the country will be rejoicing'.
