8 games to go and if our target is 40 points then its only 8 points needed but will this be enough?

Personally mate I think it's more. I think 42 will see us safe. It's just so hard to predict at the moment with so many teams being right bang in the mix

if we can get 9-10 more points then i think we will survive a win @ the baggies and 2 more at home might be enough. If we some how beat west brom and newcastle lose @ home to chelsea we will be 6 points above the relegation zone with 2 home games the next 2 fixtures so 3 more wins or 9 pts might be enough will be tight tho cuz of are poor GD.

Personally I think ten more points and we are guaranteed to stay up, I just don't want us going to the Emirates in need of a result.

42, 43 or 44 points needed for survival this season - 42 will probably be enough. 4 more wins please !

14 Stoke - 43 Points 15 Portsmouth - 41 points 16 Hull - 39 points 17 Sunderland - 37 points 18 Newcastle - 36 points 19 Mboro - 31 points 20 WBA - 29 points

42, 43 or 44 points needed for survival this season - 42 will probably be enough. 4 more wins please ! What planet are you on? Every one at the bottom is taking points from each other and as its so tight there is no way more than 40 points will be needed more like 38 will keep us up.

I always reckoned that if we won a big proportion of our home games then we will have enough, especially as some are against our rivals. Another 3 home wins gives us 41, we never lose to WBA so 42 is probably the best return we may see. If it's enough, well I hope so.

40 points is a must! I have always said that, even when the other month people came on here saying that Rednapp would be right in saying 37 would be enough. I never for a minute would of taken that, no way!

We need 42 as a minimum (although personally I think we'll finish with more).
1996-7, Sunderland finished 18th with 40 points 1997-8, Bolton 18th with 40 2002-3 West Ham 18th with 42 points. Scary!!

We need to aim for 43 points, we might only need 38 but we don't want to need points from the Arsenal game.
If we can win at Brazil and beat Newcastle at home we'd have our heads out of the scrap and be able to coast home.
There's some tough fixtures coming up for our rivals. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Someone posted a few weeks ago the cut-off points for the last few years. But they posted the point totals of the 17th place team - which sometimes has been many points higher than 18th. We all know you only need one more than 18th. So here's the point totals of the 18th placing teams going back:
07/08 - 36 (Reading) 06/07 - 38 (Sheffield) 05/06 - 34 (Birmingham) 04/05 - 33 (Crystal Palace) 03/04 - 33 (Leicester - Everton were 17th on 39) 02/03 - 42 (West Ham) 01/02 - 36 (Ipswich Town) 00/01 - 34 (Man City)
So what will it be this year? A year like 02/03? Or a year like every other one this decade? Doesn't feel to me like it's going to take 40.

I reckon 41 points should be enough - 40 would be but as our goal difference is crap we will need the extra point.

I just cant see WBA, Newcastle or M'boro getting anywhere near 40 points; I'd be surprised to see a side scoring 38 / 39 points go down. Having said that I think we will get well above 40 points starting with 3 points against the baggies who must now be feeling doomed.

We're averaging about 1.07 pts a game, this has got us 5th bottom, 1.07 times 8 is 8.56, so by my reckoning, 9 points will keep us up.

Which is 41 points

It would take an amazing run of results given their fixtures for Boro and Newcastle to manage 40-points. Presuming WBA don't do something magical before the end of the season, I think the bottom three today will be the bottom three at the end of the season.
Our aim should be 40-points, which will keep us up.
