People on here have been talking about this roller coaster season. Been watching/following Stoke since 1963 and from that 1st game at home against Burnley when we drew 4-4 after being 3-1 up at half time(Tony Allen scored an og for their equaliser late in game) until now has been one massive roller coaster for me but with more ups than downs imo. Here are my ups and downs :
Ups: Just avoiding relegation from old Div 1 just about every season in 60s.
Sir Stans testimonial in 65
Beating Arsenal 5-0 in 71 (they went on to win div 1 title)
Getting to FA Cup Semi finals in 71 and 72
Beating Man utd in quarter finals of both league and FA cups in 72
Winning League Cup in 72
Beating Leeds 3-2 in 74 to end their 23 game unbeaten run
Finishing 5th in 75 but so so close to being champions.
promotion back to div 1 in 81
auto windscreen and auto glass trophies in 93 and 2000
league 1 champions 93
league 1 play off winners 2002
promotion to premier league last season
premier league survival 2009 pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeze.
Downs:
FA cup semi-final defeats by arsenic 71 & 72
relegation in 77, 84, 91 and 98 especially 84
Having to sell all our star players in 77 to pay for butler st stand roof
Waddington getting sacked in 77
fa cup knockouts in 3rd and 4th rounds almost every season
play off defeat to Leicester in 96
Am sure there are more that I have forgotten but point is its more exciting being a Stoke fan than enduring season after season of boring success that the likes of Man Utd fans have to.
