after watching the last several games (on TV mind you here in America) its come to mind that his throws are just that, an ordinary throw in. havent seen many at all that dont go directly to an opposing defender. not sure if its Stoke who arent using it right or what ?? there doesnt seem to be anyone in front of the defenders to flick it on etc, they all seem to be deep in the box waiting for it and defenders in front of them so the throw goes straight to a defender most of the time. has it been sussed or is it just not being used right ?

fromafar07:
His throws ARE still causing problems for defenders and our second against Bolton came (indirectly) from one of his throws and the confusion caused. He's less effective away because:
A. Most of the pitches are wider
B. Many have very short 'run offs' around the pitch and are often 'banked' (I.e. Old Trafford/Everton)

Don't think we've used it as well as we have done fromafar but also I think at some of the older grounds we've visited the perimeter of the pitch isn't as conducive as the more modern stadia. Goodison is an old shit hole and had a steep incline for Rory to run up to take his throws. I think you have a point about the flick ons mind although I think it coincides with Mama simply not winning any headers anymore.

It's far too easy to defend against a Rory throw now, and we really need to be mixing it up more often. Added to that, Rory doesn't really add anything to our general play, and should probably be dropped for our next game against Boro.

The throw is still effective. As stated, without the throw we would not of scored the second against Bolton. The throws are still causing confusion in defences. The players need to move more in the box, this causes the havoc. The players can't expect the ball to be planted on thier heads.
Rorys should not be dropped imo. Rory should be playing in the middle thats where he is most effective.

You need more players in their with the likes of Whelan on the edge of the box to volley or strike a long range effort if it comes out. Also teams are figuring out that if the keeper comes out big and dominant he will demand the area and make it harder for us to capitalise from.

we are looking quite dangerous from corners lately but the throw is still very useful
