Fuck me, talk about looking for trouble.
We too our seats just as the teams were about to kick off. We stood up, started singing then everyone sat down, policeman polietly told us to sit down as people behind can't see, which we ablidged.
Then, straight after, I get grabbed my the back of my jumper and this officer with stubble, face like a smacked arse, etc.. tells me and my mate to "shut up, you 2 are walking a thin line, especially you" pointing in my direction.
We continue to watch the match, sing songs, not standing, or doing anything remotely wrong, with this officer eyeballing us the entire time. Later in the game I glance over at the everton fans and one give me a wanker sign, with a smile, during a chant of oh when the reds. I put my arms out singing it at him, the evertonian smiles back doing a 2-0 sign with his hands. After that harmless bit of banter, seargant grabalot comes bowling over to read me the riot act and gives me my last warning, as well as doing his trademark clothes grab.
I explain it's harmless banter, and what about the evertonian, in which i'm again told to shut up or else i'll be escorted out of the grounds.
Stoke score and during the mental, I get pulled back off of the steps by my friend, look up, to find grabalot giving me evils.
I didn't get escorted out, or do anything to warrant a throwing out might I add, but his heavy handed approach and constant approaching me during the game put a bit of a downer on the day. Other than that, quality day out. Bring on boro!

The police were heavy handed yesterday, even with their own fans when some got ejected for a bit of banter, don't know what the problem was most of it was fairly good natured banter

When I spotted the police horses and that lots of the police were carrying wooden canes before the game, I wondered if it was going to be a bit hostile but it turned out not to be at all like that.
Both police and the stewards tried to get people to sit down at the start (that's what they're paid to do!) but they were fine when people got excited and stayed standing up after we scored. Actually one of them kept turning around to watch the game for a good bit of the second half every time we got excited. Even had a bit of a laugh and banter with them about how loud we were a couple of times.
Good on them I say - oh and they seemed to be able to close the roads after the game so that people could get away from the ground quickly... lessons there for Staffs finest, maybe.

only ever seen those wooden canes at Liverpool and Everton, in what circumstances does it warrant being twatted with one of those? its just plain assult and surely can't be tolerated.

In fairness they let us stand all game without even having a word, I did wonder when I saw the hiking canes what the hell they were doing though! We went in Arkles before the game and as we entered two coppers went in with their sticks, we thought it was kicking off at first but they seemed almost standard issue up there yesterday!

willard..y
The canes signify rank, and are a visible sign of that , the fact that people spotted them illustrates the point..how many other grounds have you noticed rank unless they've been right in your face..
Liverpool people know this and so do the rest of the police.
As for the horses, been used as a very effective crowd control at football games in Liverpool games for as long as I can remember , their numbers don't indicate the potential for trouble..
They're given more respect by most than the 'eye in the sky , the candid camara vans and even the black suited support groups...

Keeping filming it on your phones, folks.
Probably our last weapon against a total police state.

only ever seen those wooden canes at Liverpool and Everton, in what circumstances does it warrant being twatted with one of those? its just plain assult and surely can't be tolerated. They are called pace sticks and are ususally carried by military. I dont know why they are still used in Merseyside and can only suppose it is tradition. I think they must be issued to Sergeants on promotion and are handy for poking but should never be used as a baton. See more here en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pace_stick

I had no trouble with either police or stewards, police even directed me to a couple of pubs. In the ground the lad by me was having a good bit of banter with the stewards and we were not told to sit down once. I don't think we would have been able to see if we had, horrible ground with all its posts and you could'nt see the corner at all. I felt sorry for the people who had paid for little kids cause I was struggling to see anything

Staying up for block 11, If a police presence like we had on Saturday stops another Heysell or Hillsborough then it is well worth it. I felt safe as a result of the police presence and not at all threatened.

thought the stewards were a bit stupid in the first half telling everyone to sit down after about to minutes! It killed the atmosphere a bit becuase very time someoine stood up and sung they had the coppers on to them.
Second half though when we scored they just let us stand up for the rest of the game ???
It does piss me off though that the police seem to want to get rid of any banter between fans aty football matches. A bity of banter makes the day worth while you have a laugh and some banter. But now as soon as a bit of banter starts you get into trouble with the police or stewards does my head in, just let us get on with it and there will be no trouble. Police cause the trouble half the time!!

I was right up the side by the corner flag, near the front. I saw a couple of Everton fans get chucked out and one or two of our lot. No idea what for, so I can't pass any judgement really.
Also, got searched and went through me pockets. The copper was alright though and had a decent chat with us, so no complaints from me personally.
What the frig was all that about with the stewards lying on the side of the pitch at the end of each half though? Hardly going stop a riot, they looked like they were sunbathing! ???
