This back to his best bollocks...Mama as NEVER been a good football player, he can win a header better than the majority of defenders, thats why he did so well earlier in the season, but when he's no jumping and winning headers, it shows how poor player he is...ie he's not prem standard in terms of ability. He's good at what he does, muscling defenders and winning headers..we DONT need play that way no more, cus we have 2 good wingers, where they will be able take players on and put decent balls into the box, we dont need rely on mama flicking it on and asking fuller do a shit laod of work! Agreed, Mama did a good job before we had better players. We've moved on now though and Beattie is obviously a much better player than him and needs a quick striker to play alongside. Unfortunately Mama is like a security blanket to TP that he can't seem to do without.

I know who I would rather be playing

Trouble is - Fuller is only half fit as he says himself and still worried about his shoulder. Camara jury is still out as he wasnt good at Everton, looked disinterested in Reserves Mama would be ok (not fab) for us as a tactical play if he and Beatts could sort out who does what to unerve certain smaller defences but not very physical ones

it is really getting quite scary for me to see, with only 9 games left, that our manager still sees Mama Sidibe as a better starting option than Ricardo Fuller.
Several on here have elequontly stated just why why this is so, but it's time for actions not words now. I fully expect to hear, in the Plough around 2pm on Saturday, that Sidibe is starting against Boro with Ricardo on the bench. I will be totally livid.
1. Form Mama has not played well for some time. Fuller is the far, far better footballer.
2. Fitness When Ric has an injury or an international match it seems that he has to wait weeks/montrhs for a start. Mama can get chucked through a plate glass window, severe tendons etc and then do ligament damage against Fulham, and on bith ocassions he was straight back in the team. Double standards from the gaffer, and if we are now placing ALL our eggs in the winning-our-home-games basket. If we don't beat Boro on Saturday we will befaced with winning all our remaining home games. That's a big ask.
I could not bear for my football club to be relegated by the odd point here or there, after not even going for it in half the matches played this season, and by not playing our best XI on regular ocassions. EVen the best teams get their best team on the pitch regularly, yet we seem to want to win with a pigheaded "I know best" attitude towards certain players.
If Mama starts every game between now and the end of May I really think we'll go down. He's been totally garbage these last few weeks, and it's not like we don't have options any more.

Since Ethers and Beattie have arrived we haven't missed Mama, and he is looking out of sorts. It's a no brainer. We have to start with Fuller and Beattie.

First and foremost, Mama IS good enough! What a load of tripe saying otherwise. For a player who has never cost a club money in transfer fees, Mama has stepped up this season and has performed very well, without looking out of place. Ok, since his injury he has not performed at a level we and himself admittingly expect him to, but that is because we have rushed him back into the first team and that is through no fault of his own. If anyone is to blame than it is the manager for pushing him in the starting line up, when he is clearly not ready for a place in the starting eleven. So far Beattie and an unfit Mama is not working and like others are saying, I would love to see TP start with Fuller & Beattie from the off come 3pm Saturday, but to dismiss Mama as not good enough is just mind boggling! Mama will continue to be a important player in our squad and long may it continue.

I cant beleive some of the comments on here. Can people not see past the end of their nose?? Mama has been immense for us over the last 18 months and still people are determined to slate the guy. I really do question the footballing knowledge of some on this board.
What annoys me the most is how everytime there is a below parr performance from Stoke the blame always gets pinned on Mama.
"We play long ball because of Mama"
"We lost the game because of Mama"
"Mama isnt good enough for the Premier League"
"TP only plays this way to suit Mama"
Its total bollocks and indicates a clear lack of footballing nouse. Players are not going to have great games all of the time. For what its worth I thought Beattie was poor at Everton, but im not going to start slating the guy. Kitson was poor from the day he arrived but still some people had some king of blind loyalty to the guy and Mama who puts in 110% every game still gets more of a slating.
Some people really need to take the blinkers off with regards to Mama. The guy is plenty good enough for this level and has answered the critics on more than enough occasions.
Chin up Mama lad!!!!

Badbuy,
I can't believe you have questioned people footballing knowlege, then go on and say Mama as been great and is a good player, Mama isn't a good football player/striker. 3 goal in a season in league 1 proved that. His performances before Bristol City lasy year proved that, when asked to do another ob other than flick the ball on this season a sproved that. Villa when asked play on the wing and be a bit creative, he looked very very shit! And I'm not having any of this he's injured bollocks. We have used his strength because we had to, we had to play long balls and him to win flick ons...Leaving Fuller to run onto loose balls. We have replaced Mama with 3 better players..Etthers, Beattie and revitalised Lennie...So he shouldn't be playing! He should also be behing Kitson in the pecking order. Kitsons although not done it so far is one of our better strikers better finishers

I don't think people are slating him on this particular thread, they're just saying that he's been poor since his return and that his partnership with Beattie isn't working. Both of which are fair comment I'd say. I love Mama to bits and his contribution to the team in the second Pulis era has been immense. However, once we were promoted, I think most of us felt that we'd be looking for someone who could both hold the ball up and provide a goal threat as well. Beattie seems more than capable of doing this, and he should be played alongside someone with some pace, be it Fuller or Camara. Mama still has a role to play, coming off the bench to ruffle some feathers for half and hour or so, but we really need to be thinking,long-term, that he's not the answer.

There's more to a striker's games than scoring goals and he was massively important to us and an important performer LONG before the Bristol City game last season - it's not just his flick ons but his ability to shield and hold up the ball and hassle defenders, creating more space for the likes of Fuller, Lawrence and Cresswell last season. As folk have said though, if we have any ambition about staying in the Premier League, it's probably time we started phasing him out a little bit.

Just at the top of my head does Norwich away ring any bells?! Mama is a good footballer and this season has been showing that until his injury and has come back not match fit, it is really as simple as that. To mention the Villa game is just plain silly, even the manager admitted to error of judgement that day so to come back with 'Villa when asked play on the wing and be a bit creative, he looked very very shit!' clearly highlights your knowledge on football. As for Lenny, please let me know when he has 'revitalised'.

"Mama's just not doin it"
No fucking shit.
He's toss.
Yes we used to need him, just like last season we NEEDED Cressie (11 goals from left wing helped us get promoted before anyone slates him).
But the key thing here is that we;ve moved on.
We moved on from Cressie and now we've moved on from Mama.
Thanks for he memories Mama (and thanks for my favourite Stoke song too!!!!!!)

I think Mama is fantastic and I'm delighted he has gained the recognition that he has done since we were promoted (player of 2008 shows he must be half decent). His relationship with Ric (on the field) is first class and they have a telepathy that managers dream their strikers will have.
Mama isn't in the side for his scoring- we all know that. When he went down injured against Fulham I thought at the time that he was the worst player we could lose to injury. As it transpires, it gave Tony a kick up the backside to find another striker and he found the bets one around!
We've seen Mama four times since injury now and I'm afraid to say that I can't see a partnership forming with Beattie. They seem to be on different wavelengths and it just isn't working.
The Boro game would be an ideal time to try Beattie and Fuller together with Etherington supplying from the wing. Sidibe can take his place on the bench and come on if needs be but, as things stand I'd prefer him out of the team.
It's nothing personal against him. It is impossible to keep a player of Beattie's class (and form) out of the side and it seems pretty clear that he works better with Fuller. As a result, we must start with Beattie and Fuller.

So are you saying that Mama has not been a good player for Stoke?? He has been immense for us for the last 18 months. His critics continue to raise his lack of goals. Well for a start he has never played as an out and out striker has he. He is instructed to win balls for Fuller and hold up the play, a job which he has done pretty much perfectly. Playing Mama frees up space for Fuller and allows him to work his magic. Fuller was quoted in the press as saying he loved playing alongside Mama. I'll take Fullers word over yours anyday pal.

Very good posts from both Knowles & Badbuy, which highlight the importance of Mama which people still unotice. I usually tend to stay away from these sort of posts when people can't construct any sort of valid argument and just say 'he's this & that' without justifying their case, but I feel it is unfair for some of the harsh comments he receives because his lack of goals. I would love stato to show the number of games we have won, drawn and lost with Mama starting in a Stoke shirt and compare them against the games he has missed. I would be confident it would look impressive.

Some of our best performances have been without him, even when we didn't get the results we deserved. Mama has his role and he does it well, but it's nice that we don't have to rely on him and the long ball tactics. Now we have Ethers and Beattie we don't need to play like we did and we now have more options than we did before. Mama should start on the bench, he isn't as good as Fuller or Beattie who should start every match. Mama can be used as an impact player in the second half to change the game if it isn't working. I like Mama, but for me he shouldn't be in the first 11.

An awful lot has changed in a very short space of time at Stoke (a definite 1st!), but guys, just remember how we were all lauding Mama before his injury, and how we cried into our beers when he was out for so long!
We couldn't buy a win without him at the time, and the blokes contribution to the side is far more than the sum of the parts of his game.
Whilst he doesn't score many goals, he scores bloody important ones!
Too many short memories on here.

Just my opinion, as a striker he's meant to be at least a goal threat, Mama isn't that. With Beattie he can hold the ball up and bring players into play and as got an eye for goal... He can also win balls in the air, and instead of just flicking it on, he also brings it down, controls it and looks for a pass.. .This indicates to me, that Beattie is a better option than Mama. Mama just isn't as good as Fuller or Beattie, therefore he shouldn't be in the team! He's done well so far, but what he does, to me doesn't constitute footballing ability, any tall, atletic player should be able to win headers, and no one does it as good as Mama. To me, and I even said Cresswell was better than Mama for this... Mama just.... hopes for the best, is probbaly a bit harsh, but Mama doesn't flick it on to a certain target, he just hopes it gets in the right area....Fullers pace, makes it look like a good ball, becasue he manages to run onto it where other players wouldn't. Beattie will look to where his strike partner is, as would Cresswell, altohugh Cresswell strugled to find that target. Mama as been good as i have said in previous posts but we have Better players now, so he shouldn't be starting.
