Perhaps he should try Carl Hoefkens at Centre Back. He didn't always play right back at Stoke, he reads the game well, can defend and is good in the air. Mind you, why should I be helping Mowbray.

One of my favourites was the 3-1 at the Hawthorns, when we played them off the park and Pesch gave the Birmingham Road End "the V's" after putting us 2-1 up.

That 4-3 was brilliant, as was the return fixture, we won 1-0 (went in off Steino's bollocks), there was 33,000 in the ground (queueing for the Brummie Road end started at 12:30) and Vinnie stamped on David Speedie's head.
If an away day gets better than that, i don't know how.

As away days go, the 1-0 in 1993 was near-perfect. Even the combination of open end and winter drizzle couldn't have tempered the exhilaration and the sense of deep satisfaction gained from shutting up the home fans at a time when their "we yam Brazil" was a germ of an idea.

even the ONE game we lost we only had 9 men (against 10).
wasnt one of the draws when we had Paul Stewart in goal for 20 mins (when they scored).
WBA fans must have winced at Mowbrays comments there.
the 0.6. in '88 was one of the worst in memory (Fox was Stoke best player so you can imagine the scoreline if a lesser keeper had played) but Albion have paid for it since then big time.

I can't believe that article. He sounds utterly defeated.
Translation:
'...I've tried everything and nothing works. It might be the players, it might be me - I dunno, something's not right. The defenders are just crap. I play them we lose. I drop them we lose. It's all gone tits up and I really haven't got a clue where we go form here. If we get dicked by Stoke and Bolton I'm history.'

I still cant believe that some sections of the media give Mowbray credit for the way he makes Brazil play. Thanks to him and his stubborness in not changing a style of play that clearly doesnt work with his class of players, he tried to outplay Manure for fuck sake and got stuffed 5-0 for his troubles. He is IMO one of the worst managers ever to manage in the top flight purely because he has allowed his ego and this "good football" mantra to get in the way of trying to keep a football club in the Prem. I seen an interview with him about how they scored 100 goals in each of the last 2 seasons in the Champ and i thgink he prefers being there as he can play his "tippy tappy" football and actually win games!
When they go down he may well get them promoted next season but they will run into the same problems again and while he is manager they have no hope of every surving in the Prem IMO. Another one of they ridiculous decisions he/the board made was not offering Kevin Philips a 2 year deal as most of there strikers couldnt hit a cows arse with a banjo

Tippytappy Moanbury's ramblings lead me to believe Brazil must have a excellent record against Bolton. Let's just check out what's happened in the last 20 years ..... v Stoke - W 1, D 7, L16 v Bolton - W 5, D 11, L 7 Padded cell anyone?

For a fella who was a decent centre half he sure can't spot one for himself. Beattie and Fuller should have a field day vs WBA if fit etc. No exaggeration to say that Arsenal could have scored and should have scored 7 or 8 a couple of weeks back if they weren't afraid to shoot. Arshavin could have had a hat-trick second half alone.
Is going to be a huge game- 3 points we should really be looking to take and defeat will pretty much finish off WBA unless they can pull out a few unexpected results in the mean time. For Mowbray to say re Bolton, a team that has won 1/3 of their games this season that they should beat them is pure nonsense. They're bottom because they're the worst team in the division and am sure Bolton will see anything less than 3 points as points dropped.
Looks like he's preparing for the inevitable. As for Hoefkens-just not good enough at this level.

He's delusional, and their fans know it too. Targeting victory against hard-working, strong, well organised sides like Stoke and Bolton is lunacy given the obvious inadequacies of his team. He's building himself up for an even-heavier-than-usual defeat on this one.

Tony Mowbray insists West Brom are "only a couple of players away" from being a top 10 side in the Barclays Premier League despite their current precarious position. Mowbray said: "Can we match teams in the Premier League? They can't beat us playing football but they can do the other side of the game. We need some experienced men in our team who know the Premier League, who have been there, seen it, felt it, worn the shirt and know what it takes. We're a couple of players away from being a decent team. We are `so near' and I like the team. But we are judged on results. I believe we are close to being a team that could be in the top 10 but we have flaws that continue to let the team down like some of the defending recently. Those are the areas that need addressing." My sides are starting to ache now ;D ;D ;D
