Would be a tremendous signing. Mcleish bought in Mcfadden, Mcsheffrey not in the squad tonight, Could I have hit the jackpot good for 5 - 10 goals till the end of the season. The final piece of the jigsaw ;D

pulis must have him on his targets, im sure many clubs would be after him, but im sure birmingham will want as many players as they can get for the fight to escape relegation so i cant see him leaving...

You'd imagine that there would be a fairly long queue if there was a sniff of his availability. Can't see it happening but hey, stranger things have happened I guess!

Coventry Telegraph
Gary McSheffrey coming home to Coventry City?
Jan 30 2008
by Andy Turner
GARY McSHEFFREY is being lined up for a sensational return to Coventry City.
The former Sky Blues striker, who joined Birmingham City in 2006, could join the club in either a permanent or loan deal before the transfer window closes on Thursday.
The Coventry-born goalscorer, who helped Blues achieve promotion to the Premier League last season, is seen as the ideal man to lift the gloom at the Ricoh Arena.
Iain Dowie's side slipped to a last-minute defeat at Hull City last night.
The City manager refused to confirm the possible deal and described the talk as just whispers.
He said: "I won't talk about individual players because we've had that happen to us with people like Leon Best.
"It's just a whisper and you have to be careful with that.
"I'll talk about root and branch changes but not about individuals.
"We do have things brewing and hope to have people in before the window closes and we may have to use the loan system too."

Wasn't it just last season they spent £4m on him? How much do you think they'd accept for a permo transfer? £2m up front maybe rising a little should probably do it, that's more like what he is actually worth as the £4m was a daft fee in the first place. He is just the calibre we should be going for, he'll be a top player in the championship and if we manage to get promotion is of sufficient quality to play there too. Get the chequebook out for this guy Coatesy!

Goodness knows why but Coventry is his spiritual footie home & all that - so no surprise he'd go back there.
But given the sniff of his availability, we should be sending flowers to Mrs Pesky-solid-hoe to butter her up for a cheeky bid.

We had the chance of signing him for free a few years ago when his contract was running out at Coventry.Inchy was assistant manager there and McSheffrey was refusing to sign So Inchy had a word with Rudgy about him saying how good he was.We never followed it up unfortunately and he signed a new contract at Cov!
