I've been very frustrated by TP at times in the the past few two or three months but it has to be said that, tonight, he got it absolutely bang on.
Given that he was always going to start with Diao the rest of the team was EXACTLY what the doctor ordered. Not only did TP get his team right and his substitutions bang on, he also sent the team out to play in the right way. We were our usual solid self and TO also ask some serious questions of a useful Bolton team was everything I was hoping for.
Stay up or go down, if Stoke play like this for the remaining games of the season I'll be happy and will be solidly behind the manager.
Just a great, great feeling tonight!

What the man said!
Yep and plenty of it. Can't fault how we tackled Bolton tonight. We're not looking to shabby.
It's down to bottle now.

Yeah, just need Diao out and Faye in (which he noticed in the 2nd half) and we have a great team to lead us to safety

Yep, huge respect to him tonight, playing lenny and whelan from the off and especially taking off diao for faye.

Yes, I agree. His tactics have been so frustrating at times, but tonight was spot on, imo. We did not just sit back, we played the right way.
Well done TP, keep this up please.

The line up at Everton will be very interesting.
I assume Etherington will start lennie is undroppable at the moment Whelan and Faye did very well tonight and Rory has proved how good he is yet again.
He'll want battlers in on sat to thwart Everton so Diao and Faye will have a good chance of starting.
If we go in to the game believing we can win, we can win!

Just one minor grumble (there's always one isn't there!), for me he made the third substitution that bit too early leaving us with no cover for the late injury Abdoulaye picked up. Other than that - spot on.

The last two games have seen TP do a few things he hasn't done in a long time and hopefully its a sign of things to come. His subs tonight were spot on, although I still think that there is a case that the first two subs should have started instead of the two they replaced!

I was going to post the same thoughts. Pulis got it spot on. Diao got subbed at the right time, Fullers time of arrival was spot on (okay predictable) and playing Whelan/Lawrence was great. Good work Tone, more of the same! Anyone got a link to the goals? (missed the second one due to a toilet break - first time I've ever done that )

you know what i liked best last night? TP realising that Ab had a bad calf so having already moved Ryan to right back he swapped the two over so that Ab wasn't in the 'danger zone' as much. Little things like that that I feel show good management skills.

I too get frustrated with Tone at times and he has made some poor selections this season but in fairness he did get it 100% right...team selection faultless really, subs were timed well and we kept at them till the end...thankfully no reverting to two holding midfield players to see out the game or more likley sit back and concede. We have similar opposition to come at home...Blackburn Wigan and M'boro...where repeat performances of last night could earn us a few points. But with Ethers back Liam and Ricci fitness improving TP has some big selection conundrums to come...hope he continues to get them right.

Sorry mate, but THAT second goal was possibly the best I've ever seen from a Stoke player. ;D

As Smudge suggested at the top of the thread, my only reservation is that Amdy deserved to start ahead of Salif. We have plenty of evidence that Amdy and Salif as a pairing doesn't work but recent games suggest that Amdy should get the nod ahead of Salif. For whatever reason Salif doesn't look a 90 minute player these days - I'd have him on the bench as an experienced option to bring on late in the game if needs be.
But, part from that, TP got it spot on. Fuller isn't yet fully fit and you have to worry that his shoulder could take a turn for the worse - the last half hour is the safest option at present.
TP's big test is going to come when Ethers is back next week - where will Delap fit in - will he occupy a wing spot or will TP risk Liam and Ethers on the same pitch for the first time?

i think TP is the definition of pragmatism. He has a clear objective (keeping Stoke in the prem) and the end will justify the means.
that makes him frustrating for us, absolutely... but he will keep us in the prem.
next year, his goal may be to consolidate and finish in the top half, season after that, push for a european place etc..
personally i think his objective oriented management style is bloody good.
