That game was rather weird. At 70 minutes it looked like the game had 0-0 written all over it, it was absolutely dire, even the occasional pigeon that usually flies aimlessly around the ground had fucked off (or died of boredom) and i swear at one point i even saw Pulis yawn.
Then out of nowhere they produce a good goal, well taken by Kranjcar and at that point i think most of us thought - game over. Nothing we could really have done with that. A minute later though and at last some good fortune, definitely not a penalty but well slotted away by Beattie and with the crowd then firmly behind us you sensed we could well go on and get the three points.
Our ball retention is poor. Diao was very poor today, his distribution was awful. I thought we lacked any sort of creativity and bar the goals that were scored, am i right in thinking that no goalkeeper had a single save to make?
I disagree with the people that say Wilkinson had a 'fantastic' game. I thought he was poor. Although fair play to him, his cross for our second goal was excellent. I thought he was at fault for their goal though. Got involved in the centre when Ab. Faye and Shawcross could have dealt with Crouch themselves and that left Hreidarsson free at the back post. We don't know whether it would have gone in had Shawcross not scored but that's irrelevent now. I also thought his distribution was atrocious and even when he did produce some decent one-twos, he then gave the ball away after. Frustrating to watch.
On the whole though, a fair result, though it's gutting the way it panned out when you're so close to three points. We need to play MUCH better than that though if we're going to stay up.
Star men for me? Abdoulaye Faye, Pugh and Beattie.
