West Ham 1 Middlesbrough 1 Blackburn 2 Coventry 2 More games for two of our relegation rivals (after all, you can't have a cup run and stay up can you?!) and we always beat West Brom don't we? Happy days.

You're on form this week, David. Fancy a trip to Belgium towards the end of the season. Dender are 3rd bottom, again. Bossie can't be blamed this time though. He's off sick recovering from a hip op. Hip hop. M.

yes lets remember how tired spurs were after their two cup ties before they played us yeah they were shite? lets face it if a team wins then they have confidence, they win in the cup then they go into the next game bang up for it. Its a shame we are so shite in the cup and never gain any confidence from our own exploits

We've been turned over twice in recent weeks by teams that have played energy draining cup ties. Sunderland and Spurs looked soooo weary after playing extra time days before we turned up.

Also we could have done with a couple of cup matches to get the suspensions out of the way

I think you can find any number of facts to back up whichever argument you want on this subject.
Boro have played the same number of cup games as us this season and are below us, Spurs beat us after 2 hard cup games, Blackburn are underachieving because they've had 2 long runs in the cup this season, West ham have flown up the table during a cup run, Boro reached 2 cup finals and were relegated years ago.
Conclusion? There are none. I probably fall into the camp that says Liam Lawrence would have received a red card for kicking the ref up the bottom, and Sorenson would have broken a wrist applauding the Boothen End if we'd played any more cup matches this season, the way things have gone recently.
Could we have fought so tirelessly against Man City if we'd had 3 more games in our legs? Would we have beaten Spurs at White Hart Lane if we'd played Man Utd in the cup twice in the weeks before the match? Could we have bucked the trend of the past 30 years and had a cup run anyway? We'll never know.

all of the above further confirms my theory that we threw the FA cup at pool' to avoid risking injury and bookings, however as far as bookings etc is concerned we've more than made up for it!

The 'lets get knocked out of the cup and let other get tired through cup runs' theory is complete bolloxs...amplified perfectly by our dreadful first 20 min performance against a spurs team who actaully played 2 cupt ties with one extra time...whereas we lazed around on beaches and lost our match sharpness in Dubai...it was arguably our worst spell of the entire season...so much for resting as others play cup matches...complete nonsense

cousindupree, I know where you're coming from, it is all overplayed and there's definitely an argument for picking your best team and getting on with it, but I do think its far from bolloxs - or else just about every club with a large enough squad wouldn't play an under strength team for cup games, and we did come within a whisker of a cup semi final with this tactic. For every 20 mins against Spurs there's a 10 man victory v Man City. Although the benefits of our Dubai break have probably gone by now, due to playing every game with 10 men.

Blackburn are fcuked. They have 14 league games left of which only 6 are at home. Also of their 8 remaining away games left they've yet to play the shit, chelski, Arse and Liverpoo. Spurs ain't out of the shit yet. They've yet to play Villa (A), Chelski (H), Shit (A), Everton (A) and Liverpoo (A) Newcastle although 3 points ahead of us have yet to play home games against Everton, Shit, Chelski, Arse as well as away games against Liverpoo and Villa. Middlesboro have yet to play Liverpoo (H), Arse (A), Man Utd (H) and Villa (H) West Brazil have a slightly easier run in than the others. They've yet to play Everton (A), Arsenal (H) and Liverpoo (H) Portsmouth have yet to play Shit (A), Chelski (H), Everton (H), Arse (H) Does this make anyone feel better?

Stokebill....we put out a great second half performance against Chelsea...didnt play for 10 days the exact same players turn up at lowly spurs and didnt perform and you have to ask why?....I can only conclude that the Dubai break had a negative affect on our performance...we did actually look like we were strolling around.

It's true, we were appalling at Spurs and probably it was because we were caught cold - but surely there are many cases of a jaded team performing poorly, and teams performing at their peak when rested.
We were poor in the first half at Newcastle too, a few days after the Derby quarter final.
I'm not really arguing the case one way or another to be honest, cup runs can go either way - moral boosting or energy sapping. I wonder what people would say if we'd played an FA Cup tie yesterday at Sunderland, lost 3 players to injury in the first half and received one red card.
In any other season I'd want us to go flat out in the cup, this season I wasn't sure. Until Hartlepool scored and, to my surprise, I felt relieved.

oh god, i'm confused now.is it good that these teams are still in the cup, or not? is it good we're out now or not?
guess all will come clearer come may.all i know is that we are not in the bottom 3, and if we win as many matches as these teams who are, we stay up. simples.
on this (senseless) logic, our match against blackburn is the biggie, cus they have a game in hand, so we deffo need to win this, then match the bottom 3 till season end, we're safe!
easy, easy, easy!! (yeh right!)

Hip hop. M. I hope he gets sacked so then we can get rid of Pulis. Then Cresswell would be dropped, we wouldn't need Rory and it would see a new brand of sexy football down the Brit and we'd be competing with the likes of Arsenal, Villa and Man City, and we might actually beat them too with our tippy tappy soccer
