Why are they called " Blues" and not " The Blues" ? In fact the retard sounding supporters of the Midland club don't like it when you call them "The Blues" ???

My mate, a Brum ST holder goes mad when some sports pundits call Chelsea the Blues because they are in fact the pensioners. Everton are the Toffee's and I have never heard them called the Blues. ???

I go Keele Uni, there is a group of about 30 blokes who wear t-shirts with Everton crest on which just read 'The Blues' on the back. I know one of them, and they are supposed to be official merchandise?.... Just a guess though, but I do think Everton only use 'The Blues' in response to being accused of being a red (pool fan). Although your pos right, Chelsea very much dominate the nicname Blues. On a side note, i did know that they were the toffees, but I wasn't actually aware of chelsea's! Shameful really that I didn't know, but you never hear them called that!

Chelsea and Everton have for some time dropped the old nicknames they once used "The toffeemen" in Everton's case and "The Pensioners" in Chelsea's. Arsenal still use "The Gunners" we are still "The Potters". I always thought Brum were known as "The Blues" never heard them called anything else. although "Blue Noser" is also popular there. Liverpool have always been "The Reds" yet Sunderland adopted "The Black Cats" for some strange reason, not so long ago. West Ham are "The Hammers" or "The Irons"..according to Alf Garnett

The black cat at Sunderland, although only a proper nickname for the last 10 or so years, has a long history with the area. A gun battery on the river wear was named "the black cat" in 1805 and from 1905 onwards a black cat was seen in team photo's regularly. in the cup final in 1937 a black cat was carried in a 12 year old boy's pocket at the match to bring the team luck, and a black cat lived at roker park for years.

"Blue Noses", that came from the infamous Blue Nose day at Crystal Palace at the end of the 1980s.Last game of the season away, and the Blues were being relegated. The Met expected 400 travelling fans and 7000 turned up wearing blue noses and fancy dress. The predictable happened, mounted polcie were seen chasing several Roman soliders accross the pitch, and Max Wall was carried unconcious out of the Palace end. My brother is a Blue Nose and has a Roman conk as well

it serves them all right that any team wants to be called, the reds, blues, greens, pinks or whatever. if there nickname had a bit more thought behind it they wouldnt have this problem, when people vsay 'the potters' there is only 1 team it could be
