I can understand why he got sent off but assuming the red was for the final offence then he kicked the ball, NOT SWP so why should it be a red?

Both off or neither off. Depends on your opinion.
The only people who thought only Rory should go were the Ref and that clueless excuse for a manger Hughes.

That's the bit I'm struggling with. The Delap swing at SWP was naughty, but I don't think anyone would say it justified a red. Are we saying he got the red, largely, for kicking the ball at SWP - while , to all intents and purposes, the ball, before any whistle from Atkinson (or at least before Delap could be said to be aware of any whistle), was still live? It was nasty to do it, but was it illegal, even if the intention was to hurt SWP? You're allowed to kick the ball where you want. In tennis, you're allowed to serve at the opponent's head, aren't you?

As Much as I like Rory.. at the match I didnt think it was a red and though SWP should have gone... and Ricahrds maybe.. But after seeing the replay of it... Delap had to go... but so should SWP

The so-called experts keep harping on about the inconsistency of referees, citing examples from different games. This bluffer managed to "forget" the rules in the space of two bastard seconds.

Out of character for Rory, but no complaints about the red card. The ref got it spot-on.

I think the club need to study the cctv footage to find the sniper who took out SWP when Rory had his first swipe. Typical exaggeration from another established prem player to make sure he wins the freekick. I guess that is the only thing SWP took from his Chelsea 'career'.
No arguments with Rorys red card, I guess it was for the kick when he was on the floor. But SWP should have gone as well.

The fact is it should never have been allowed to get to that point - SWP lunging dangerous challenge on Etherington should of been at least a yellow card if not red.
The whistle should of been blown there and then however instead he just let it escalate and lost control of the situation.

Well it was 2 yellow card fouls for me from Rory so I'd appeal to get his ban reduced to a game. Kicking the ball against someone is not a sending off offence iimo. His first foul cynical and the second stupid 2 yellows=red=1 match ban.
Wright Phillips on the otherhand blatantly kicked Delap that is violenet conduct and a 3 match ban.
