Amdy Fayes signing in the summer screamed of panic, his reputation was of a player who had totally lost his way, but I must say I think he has been pretty good for us so far and i would be disappointed if he were to be allowed to leave, especially for relegation rivals Portsmouth (as suggested by the sentinel). He is just about the only central midfielder we have with any mobility and he has easily outshone the ineffective glenn whelan. We need a better version of Amdy i.e one who can pass but where are we going to get one from? Are there any athletic affordable central midfielders in the domestic market from which we shop?
We are painfully poor in central midfield, Whelan is useless, Olofinjana more miss than hit, and salif incapable of playing enough games. Of the lot we've got Amdy is just about our most dependable.
It would be lunacy to let him go at this stage and in our current position.

don't tell anybody that! everyone thinks pulis was mad to be bringing him in
midfield should be
lawro delap Amdy/Diao Ethers
with that midfield there is a decent blend of ball winners/defensive midfielders as well as creativity in order to survive this season

We are painfully short of quality in midfield, I`m convinced this is the main reason why we are doing so badly away from home. Any combination of the current NINE centre midfield players we have are simply not good enough for this level. I`m hoping and praying for at least one midfield player with the ability to create and get forward before mondays deadline. Doubt we`ll get one though............

One of our star performers in home games over the last 4-5 games.

He's very hit and miss, isn't he?
Doesn't have much quality at all on the ball.
But he has had some excellent games at home in the last few months.
I can't really see the point in letting him go unless he was getting very itchy feet and letting it be known he'd walk on a Bosman in the summer AND we had target(s) lined up to come in to replace him immediately - and, let's face it,you wouldn't bank on that.
As TP thinks Diao is "our best midfielder by a country mile" and the "best midfielder of his type in the Premier League", I wouldn't like to think we'd be looking at Faye-Diao for the run-in. Surely there's only room for one of them?
Personally, I'd go for Faye but Pulis will go for Diao.

I actually cant see us giving him another contract in the summer regardless of what league we are in, maybe he realises that and may be seeking the security of a move now? He has had plenty of clubs recently maybe he wants to settle down somewhere?

If we stay up, we need 4 central midfielders.

I agree, unless he's dead set on leaving, which I don't imagine he is in Senegal-on-Trent and given that he said he wanted an extended deal just a month ago, we should do all we can to keep him.
He's been a good performer for us this season, he's are best tackler and pretty assured in the middle.
Also, at 31, we wouldn't get more than £1 million for him and what's that to us these days?
