Our main objective when we were promoted was that we would build a squad capable of coming straight back up if we were relegated? When you look at all the transfers we have made, apart from Faye, Kitson and maybe Sorro (Sorro on a free and Faye was going cheap with an obvious good sell on price, kitsons price tag depends on goals and appearences), we have bought players that would more than likely stay at the club should we go down. i have a theory that we were promoted without being ready for the prem in terms of squad quality and size, allthough we have spent the money, apart from a couple are we just buying a championship winning squad. I beleive we may have intention of coming straight back up next season and having a good go at it given the head start we'd have from having better players allready in place at the club? If I am not correct then why have we not had any exciting/ambitious loan signings that we could never afford to buy outright? The type of player who can dictate a game and get you a goal/3 points with a bit of class???. I'm not saying we are trying to get relegated, i'm saying that we are preparing for the 'IFs' & 'Buts' of the situation. I think we are preparing to much for going down and coming straight back up than we are about staying up this season.

maybe not ethers but i think beattie would be willing to fire us srtaight back up if we were serious about it.
When TP came back to Stoke him and Coates both said that they have a "long term plan" for this football club. I beleive this was the plan, obviously not to intend to get relegated but choose the players we buy wisely with the intention of taking care of the dreaded return to the CCC.
Lord - there are many players available we could loan, and not just in England, not just lampard ask steve bruce he pulls them from everywhere.

Beattie did say he wanted to be at sheffield for the rest of his career, pretty bold statement, now he's here, i'm still really happy his is but can his loyalty be trusted?

true, but we do seem to be buying and not using money for loan fee's that could be a class better than what we have. We basically own the players we have. Thats why i think we are planning for another crack should the worst happen.

I find it very hard to believe Coates is a "Premiership or Bust" type of man. There will be some kind of longer term contingency involving raising the profile of the club over three years as opposed to just this one. Don't think it's deserving of conspiracy theory status (ask Serpico, he knows about conspiracy theories.... : , just would make more business sense. And I don't believe that he is not bothered about staying up this season if we can, it's just that there will be some preparation should we go down.

At the start of the season I wasn't very hopeful of staying up, but having been in the Prem and seeing that with a bit of the right application we could very well stay up with the right tactics and attitude. I think that's why alot of people are getting upset, because they can see it is attainable, but poor decisions are letting us down and it's fucking frustrating.

TP has always used loans to basically do what he does best - survive, why has'nt he done it this time???
yes o.k we've had the £23m to spend, but when you look at the squad we were promoted with and how much we needed to improve in terms of quality and squad size to even field a half decent team thats peanuts isn't it? we are still a small squad in terms of premiership squad sizes and probably in the bottom 4-5 when it comes to wages.
So why none of the TP famous exciting loans to keep us in this league?

I don't think you can have as many loans in the Prem for a start, thus meaning that half the squad can't be loanees making it a less viable option!
Besides we need to start owning some players as opposed to just borrowing them.

No. I think it was do your best with what we can afford without risking serious financial difficulty should we gamble and bust.
If we go down or not we will still be in a better position than if we never got promoted.

imo TP is a victim of his own success and the clubs 'long term plan' that was talked about upon TP's return from Plymouth.

....maybe Coates has put his wallet away?
....maybe there will be?

No. I think you're absolutely wrong.
Coates has got here and is determined to stay.
