Personally don't see why we don't bite their hand off for 50k, especially given as we can get Boulding for 45k and Cureton for 50k? ------------------------------------------
Barnsley boss Gudjon Thordarson is ready to admit defeat in his efforts to bring Chris Iwelumo to Oakwell. The Icelandic manager has previously worked with the big Scot during his own spell at Stoke and having had three bids for the powerful forward rejected, Thordarson is ready to turn his sights on alternative targets.
Barnsley are thought to have offered a final bid of around £50,000, but with Stoke seemingly reluctant to sell, the deal does now seem unlikely.
Iwelumo, out of contract in the summer, is entitled to move on a Bosman in the summer and is also rumored to be interesting Brighton, Sheffield Wednesday, Northampton and Walsall.
The Yorkshire club could now focus their attention on trying to lure former Bristol Rovers striker Jamie Cureton to Oakwell.
Cureton is available for a £50,000 fee and has already attracted interest from Sunderland, QPR and former club Reading.
Earlier this week, Barnsley had a bid for Grimsby's Michael Boulding rejected. The former tennis professional is entitled to speak to any club that bids above £45,000 and could be another alternative for The Tykes.

Why are we reluctant to sell Iwelump. Personally i would pay them to take him off our hands(not literally) The man is a donkey and plays like the paper that says hes good. When you think about, our strike force that year must have been crap for iwelump to be top scorer.

Is our beloved Chairman away with the elves that his fellow countrymen so often talk about? Stoke have seriously lost the plot if we have turned the fee down, perhaps Big Chris's day job is a gardner and Gunnar wants him to do all the spring planting before he'll let him go! Iwelumo certainly needs a change of club, and one that matches his abilities, Barnsley et al would have been ideal. Another thought has just crossed my mind, Giff the kit man needs a big strong assistant, has Chris applied for that job instead?

Surely the point is "rumoured to be £50,000"? Seem to recall it being quoted on the message board that we had turned down an offer of £150,000 for Freezer. Yet, when we did reach agreement it turned out to be for far less than that. Have to say that I am glad that we on here don't do the transfer deals for the club. We tend to get all upitty when the club appear to take the first half decent offer for a player. Yet, when the club appear to be trying to get the best deal possible, we now appear to be complaining that they don't just grab the first offer. Oh well! Who wants to be consistent.

Maybe it's Gunnar holding grudges with Gudjon still and not wanting to help him out. Mind you ???, Lumo , helping would be debatable Prob do OK in div2 mind. A rumoured 50,000 would do for me.

With a number of players out over the next few weeks including Ade we need as much cover as we can especially if we pick up a few injuries as well.
Though I expect him to go sooner than later.

There is a rumour of a swap deal involving Iwelumo. Could be the reason we refused.

But, JR, the question is to swap him for what?
I'd personally swap him for Trotters Independents Traders' three wheeler, with no tax disc and a dodgy MOT certificate. ;D
50,000? Is the deal for us to pay Barnsley that to take him off our hands, ther great lummox? Sounds fair to me.

If he's that poor how come we have cash interest? A rarity these days. He won't ever set the world alight but like Goodfellow might do a decent job at a lower league level. Outscored Andy Cooke for 2 seasons, a player few said a bad word against.
We have got interest from elsewhere so why take any old offer.? Is another 50k say neither here nor there to a football club like ours?
