I think Chelsea's new tactics are tailor made for Stoke to take advantage of in particular the long throw of which i'm expecting the Potters to take full advantage . That is my observation following the Chelsea match last night.

Something tells me they will be working on set plays a lot this week.
I think Delaps throws have been slowly improving again, Chelsea are yet to defend a Delap missile so could prove to be tough test for their defence.
I'd still be ecstatic with a point though!

I'd still be ecstatic with a point though! chelsea's ground is one of the few away grounds that would suit our style of play, its a very narrow pitch, isnt it only a few metres bigger in length and width. rory could get some purchase on saturday. i think we if force enough set pieces, something will drop for us

Zonal Not Marking would be closer to the ... mark.
Though I assume Cavalio (or however he spells it) will be back in against us, for the absolutely rubbish Alex? Southend's goal was down to the big-daft Alex not bothering to do much at all ... And that wasn't the only time he just couldn't be bothered to defend anything like properly.
I don't think it's their system - though that may not help - but the fact that only one of their center-backs on display was anything like decent.
If we are lucky - and Alex does play - then we have every chance from set pieces (and before Joe turns up to complain ... no probably not corners, though!).

Although we have the smallest pitch in the league, it only equates to about 3-4ft either side, not much when you consider it.

Chelsea's pitch is 103m x 67m - Not that narrow really.
The biggest pitches in the league are 105m x 68m. Ours is 100 x 64m.

, Chelsea are yet to defend a Delap missile ! Can you clarify what you mean by this statement? I remember Cech was one of the first keepers to openly say that they have been working on defending the long throw in training. My memory is hazy but I seem to recall they were on the ball against them at the Brit. Cant agree more about the zonal thing, Beattie could easily rip through the centre if we dont score that way I am sure a frustrated John Terry might may a silly foul or two.

Delap didn't play against them at the Brit.

Some sort of groin injury was it not?
He was on the bloody ball because Diao, Sonko and Higgy were taking it in turns to throw the ball straight up in the area, unlike Rory's flat missiles.

I retract my statement. Appologies Geordieland.
Although i do remember them saying Cech had been preparing for them.

There was some confusion at the time about the nature of his injury, but it was probably the first sign of the shoulder trouble he's been having.

I retract my statement. Appologies Geordieland. Although i do remember them saying Cech had been preparing for them. So has every other keeper who has played us so far. When Delap is firing them in properly (with full power) then I don't think anyone has truly been able to cope with them. Some defences have faired better than others but that's more by luck than judgement. I think the best teams to defend them so far have been Boro (with Ross Turnbull) and Hartlepool! Delap definitely DID NOT play against Chelsea at the Brit, it was Higgy taking the long throws, no-where near as good!

Although i do remember them saying Cech had been preparing for them. That's true. I remember wondering at the time how you prepare to defend against them unless you've got someone in the side who can deliver them. Maybe they've got some kind of Rory-o-matic ball launcher! ;D

I retract my statement. Appologies Geordieland. Although i do remember them saying Cech had been preparing for them. Also I think some pundit, or other, slipped up on MOTD saying that Cech was the only keeper who had coped with the Rory throw - roughly translated as "Chelsea kept a clean sheet at the Brit and I couldn't be bothered to check if Delap played"
