Quote; " P.S I had been told that the atmosphere at the Britannia Stadium was the best in the premier league. I went there for the first time to watch Stoke play Liverpool on saturday evening. I wasn't disappointed, the crowd was fantastic."

Delighted to hear it. If I am honest I am a bit surprised that we are outsinging Portsmouth. A couple of years back from watching TV and listening to the radio, I thought the Pompey fans were superb - win or lose. Wonder what happened - because the rot set in before 'arry left.

They've been fed a big dose of reality..oh and Tony Adams.

Obviously Tony Adams would bring any set of fans down to earth - but they started going quiet long before he took over.

Whenever I heard Pompey, they tended to go with concerted renditions of things like 'Harry Redknapp's blue and white army', songs lending themselves for easy participation, which last longer, and increase in momentum.

Pompey fans sounded superb against AC Milan - maybe they struggle to get themselves going these days for the mundane league games?

The same will happen to us if we stay up, eventually the crowds will fall and so will the atmosphere

Yet, when we played Derby in a very winnable league cup quarter final it was like a fcuking library. The lads must have thought it was a training match after 10 mins, played wank and lost.
Weird...

The same will happen to us if we stay up, eventually the crowds will fall and so will the atmosphere as long as the club maintains steady progression i dont see why this would happen, although i can see your point

Yeah the AC Milan game was unbelieveable to listen to on tv, but Stoke fans have been brilliant all season & long may it continue! So far we put all opposition fans to shame.

Oliver Holt's also written a small piece on Phil Brown this morning, criticising his eccentric behaviour. He says after Brown's on-field half time rant at Man City, and following it up by going out onto the pitch at after the defeat at Everton to shake all his players' hands, what's he going to do if they lose again at Newcastle tonight, lead his players on a lap of honour? Looks like it's not just us who've sussed Tango Man as an nothing more than an attention-seeking, up-his-own-arse poser.

Holt writes very well. often disagree with him but I dont think there is any agenda other than how he see's it which is how all journalists should (if allowed) write.

Nice to finally see a football writer actually praise us about something. Well done Oliver Holt.

Holt is often wrong but is not a pri%k like alot the journos, as someone said he seems to speak his true oppinion and thats really all you want from the media as opposed to the "lets just see what the other papers say and copy it" attitude that seems to have arisen

He's not bad is he. In fact, compared to that scouse apologist twat Reade he's a fucking genius.
The Mirror has, over the last 5 years, gone completely down the shitter. It's gone from the only paper i would buy, to absolutely fucking no chance.

I think Pompey are noisy because they have a small ground with everybody packed in for every match. we are similar albeit slightly bigger and 4 open corners to compete against.
There is no doubt that pompey's fans are generally locals and not glory hunters, with great passion and they have had a good run in th prem with 'Arry.
As Tone would say-" A proper fottball club"
Our attendances, volume and passion has however been outstanding both home and away and evidenced superbly again at the weekend. I am convinced that this type of support goes a long way to making potential signings commit to us.
Im out of work at the moment so havent been to all the away games but Im really looking forward to Chelsea on Saturday. Pity we've not got more tickets but Im sure there will be plenty of noise, win draw or lose.

He should be good as he did come from the Times! Obviously the DM pays better. That's why The Big Bear (Martin Samuel to you) has just moved to the Daily Mail, apparently for a cool £400,000 p.a.

Holt's the son of Eileen Derbyshire, also known as Emily from Corrie, isn't he?

I wonder where his column in The Times 'Pull out' was on Monday. £400K to write about football in a newspaper whose readers main concern is immigrants eating Swan's and whether Lady Di should be made a saint. Money talks.
