Just said on Radio Stoke they'd issued an apology but that liberty were still considering legal action ( Re preventing 70 Stoke fans attending Old Trafford )

Hope this is true and have texted Malcolm. Of course, given what happened, they need to do MUCH more than apologise!

Hope this is true and have texted Malcolm. Of course, given what happened, they need to do MUCH more than apologise! As I said Forny it's being reported on Radio Stoke so I guess it must be true but they gave very little in terms of detail just the fact that they'd apologised. Would like to see the statement !

I have exchanged texts with Malcolm. He is on his way to London as we speak for an FA Council meeting (he is the first supporter rep to sit on the FA Council)and won't be able to post until tomorrow. He had heard about and is pleased about the apology but regards the job as only half done - watch this space! ;D

Well done to Malc and everyone involved, like someone's said job half done, time to push for disciplinary action for those involved and court action so this can't be used again.

Yes, well done to everyone involved in this matter including the FSF, Liberty, the solicitors who have donated their time free of charge and especially to our own poster, Edward Hitler, who had the balls to proceed to try and rectify an injustice.
The apology is just a start. This matter now needs to be pursued through the courts to set a precedent. The police are not above the law and should wield their power correctly. However, let this not be a witch hunt of all the police. They serve us all very well and are the thin blue line between anarchy and a just society. IMHO, these proceeding will only serve to strengthen them. If they act justly and within the law, and are seen to be doing just that, they will earn more respect.

If GMP are apologising ahead of the case then it's because they're know they're going to get a beating if this goes before a judge.
Although it's up to the individuals involved to decide when they want to let this drop I hope that it is pursued to its conclusion so that the rights of all football supporters, indeed the whole population, are not abused again in such a flagrant and disgusting manner.
Well done to the 'FSF' and well done to 'Liberty'. It has restored a lot of my faith that in the fact that we can get justice in this country, even if we do have to fight to get it.

Cheers for your comments guys. Most of the hard work has been done by malcolm and Anna Fairclough at Liberty, big thanks must go to them.
I discussed posting more details on here with Malcolm and Anna and we decided that Malcolm would post details as and when we have crossed the I's and dotted the T's.
What i can say is that the GMP have indeed admitted fault and have launched a full review of their use of section 27.

The apology should be accompanied by a payout of £10,000 (without prejudice) to everyone who was issued with a section 27 and returned to Stoke. It would then be more meaningful.

I know it's an entirely different story but the The Met Police apologised for killing an innocent Brazilian electrician because he looked guilty.
The GMP apology is only the start to put right these wrong-doings. I wonder what internal GMP disciplinary procedures will now follow into these events?

A pat on the back indeed. Hopefully this will still go all the way, fans will be compensated and heads will roll at the worst Police force in the nation.

Does Pistol still visit this site - I thk he's in a position to cover this story?

NNH - when all this is done and dusted (with compensation paid to the aggrieved fans) you could bring out a mug and shirt to commemorate the event. I'm sure GMP would be chuffed to bits at the free publicity! ;D
