Do you think that getting the 20 points before Christmas was the trigger for Pulis to spend? Do you think PC would of opened the cheque book so readily had we been say on the points WBA are on?
I think Tone has hit his stage one objective and Uncle Pete has let him have his wish.

We have now played the top 6 at home. Every remaining home game is a relegation battle and every game is winnable. The second half of the season could be easier than the first half. 20 points was great before Christmas. Another 21 points now needed to be certain of staying up without any last minute heart attacks.
Football is an easy game at 11pm on a Tuesday evening, isn't it?

That's a really good question Sidders. Is our current spending indeed based on Pulis having achieved a certain points tally? I just wonder how many points he had to get to ensure that he didn't have to sell during this window?

Good point too PS, I am not sure if he would have offloaded more than perhaps a reduced spending spree?

All the shit from the past deserves to be forgotten I don't agree with that yet, I can't forgive him for 1996 season yet. Although I am grateful for what he's done so far, we've spent far more than I thought we would ( I dont think we've spent quite as much as the club would have us think though )

Though there is no doubt if we stay up the full whack payments will be made.

Icelandpotter, I remember that season so fuckin badly, when people were handing his address out in the ground, I wanted to firebomb his house ;DI TRULY think HE came back for redemption and he has been truly brave and deserves MASSES of credit for returning, Lets not forget he is a stoke fan and wants what we all desire for OUR team aswell

I just hope that TP has learned his lessons in the Prem quickly and the next 4 months see us consolidating our prem status. That would be amazing.

I think that - provided we didn't do a Derby - the maximum level of spend was agreed before we kicked a ball in August.
So long as we were competing (and even the baggies could be said to be doing that; they aren't that far behind us!) then Peter would sanction spending up to a (rough) maximum limit (i.e. somewhere around the level of the Sky money).
I'm sure there was an interview with The-Saint - from early in the season - where he told us all about this (maybe on the Official Site)?

I am still not convinced that had we been cut adrift he would have been so brash with the cash. He has without a doubt though backed his man. He must have so much trust in Pulis.

I dont know if 20 points by Christmas was the trigger point for Peter Coates to get out his cheque book again ... and to be honest no one else posting here have any more idea, unless Peter and Tony post in disguise. I posted at the end of last season to make a public apology to Peter Coates and Tony Pulis. When Peter returned after the Icelanders sold and ran off back to their homeland I was amoungst those who predicted doom and gloom. When he brought back Tony I thought it was a joke. But I was wrong - and I said I would never doubt Peter and Tony again. Nothing has changed my mind. This season was never going to be easy. Tony was given big money which he spent. No whether it was wise spending or not --- he brought players in who he thought would strengthen the team and prepare us for staying in the Premier. So far in the transfer window he has brought in two players with proven quality. But we should also reflect on our performances - and what pleases me is that the lads never sat die. We fight to the last ball is kicked. How many of the posters on here remember that season when Brian Little was in charge. It was an embarresment to watch the team play. For me working and living in Nottingham surrounded by Forest and Derby fans it was hard to argue. How many times did we see the opposition score and the heads went down and the aim seemed to be about not shipping more than 5 goals. How different we are now. So lets stop all the c**p knocking the management, questioning if this had happened would that have happened. Let us enjoy the season and at all times get behind this club that we love so much. The lads will do it for us ... Be positive, we will stay up

in january he is more convinced we will stay up so is buying prem quality in beattie and ethers but if we do go down we can afford to keep them
