...I have been working on the technology for 4-years, I have invested everything into this business and have just agreed a funding deal with a Venture Capitalist. BUT, I would like people to take a look at the site and let me know if they understand it. The actual technology application will be up and running from the end of March/April on the same site. I need to know what people make of it, if that makes sense? www.myfeedme.comThanks Spuddy

ive looked at it... and i get the concept (i use biz intelligence tools all the time)
As a buyer my first question / comment would be "I dont search for the same information all the time"
Putting my sales hat on (and ive sold biz intelligence products before) you are going to really have to work on your value proposition... this kind of service is rock hard to sell.. the first comment is always "Why would I pay for something I can get for free?"

Thanks.
Firstly this isn't a search engine it is a continuous query engine and is designed to provide a constant view of Internet developments, intelligence, news and business insight for individual and corporate users. Secondly it is not like pipes or aggregated RSS/news, as these produce too much data and are generic to all users. whereas MyFeedMe is unique to individuals/groups.
In addition MyFeedMe allows users to create user groups based around intelligence needs and for the application to understand the needs of the individuals and/or the group and to keep finding more and more relevant content and posting it. In time each specialist group (SIG) becomes more and more valuable and will become the place to connect online for intelligence on any given subject.
We target business users, this is not an individual user tool, although we do give it free to universities, medics and consultants.

Good luck with it mate, I listened to a podcast recently where the CEO of mahalo.com stated that 1% of the search engine market is worth 1 Billion Dollars.
Would you be better off, to offer it free and have paid advertisers instead?

I think it will work but you haven't picked the best time to launch it. Or maybe you have. Companies will be looking at all ways to cut costs and time saving is one of them. I only use a search engine as an individual although I've taken up writing now so I know the hassle of wading through pages of Google trying to find the info I want. I can imagine a medium sized company will soon recover your charges in time costs and it will also make them more efficient.
NB: your site is fantastically quick which I would take as a mark of quality.
Good luck, Spuddy. It's people like you who put the 'Great' into Britain. I love innovation and have a great regard for those who are prepared to risk everything.

Funky,
Creating cash from web 2.0/3.0 applications is difficult and advertising revenues are much sought after. However, we prefer to provide a 'pure' business service and by giving the tool free to certain groups we generate unique and often valuable content. These users point us off to URL's that Google and the like don't see, they also create unique content.
In addition, we are proposing to 'sell' business reports to our users from third parties which are aligned to their intelligence needs. As such, additional revenue is generated through affiliates and partners IF the user acquires the associated report (does that make sense?).

OS - thanks for the reply, I value those kind words. It has been tough!!
This is a good time to launch as our service can be a headcount replacement for back office research staff, it also reduces the time spent online as you point out. Ironically it is suggested that companies who can launch and develop in the next two years will reap the rewards of the upturn when it arrives. Also money is cheaper for us with government forcing banks to lend and costs are lower as we can negotiate leases and salaries etc.
All in all I think it is well timed for us.

Quick, good and friendly, I like it too but like OS says, quite a time to be launching and you must be pissed off at the delay. But maybe that can be a virtue if sold with a longish cheap introductory window, then rising to the full sub? Beat the recession by being ahead of the competition cheaply? As dubai says, so much has to depend on the sales team - are you selling it yourself or using a sales co?

Sal,
I have a Sales and Marketing director and two other investor directors who have sales expertise, as well as my own background in ICT sales. We will be networking very hard and carrying out a lot of marketing from March/April time.
We may bring in 2-3 direct sales persons also as well as telesales.
