Looking at the match day programme yesterday, we had a bigger squad of first teamers than Liverpool did, and it struck me what our wage bill must be like. Compare this with Bolton, who could only manage 3 subs at Arsenal yesterday, and it worries me somewhat that we could end up with too high a wage bill to cope with should we suffer the drop back to the Championship at the end of the season (please, no!!!) With further "big" signings supposedly on the horizon, the wage bill looks like getting higher still, and with new players demanding 2/3 year+ contracts, it does concern me that relegation could result in us having over-budgeted on the wages front. Of course, we have to gamble if we want to survive this season, but there must be a limit to what we can afford to offer respective signings. On the other hand, we don't want to be in Bolton's situation, with half of the youth team pushing for first team places all at the same time. It's a problem that only Peter Coates knows the answer too, and to what level of funding he is prepared to provide and (no doubt)the amount of funds he is prepared to gamble (lose)to stave off relegation.
