People are just speculating that the deal off just cause the tabloids say so and we all know that wot they say is always true.........NOT. I really do think it a done deal and the rest is just paper talk especially if the thread is true about speaking to Ryan in Nantwich.

My understanding was that payments that should have been paid on transfer. (ie sign on fees) were added to his standard Sheff utd wages so they could be amortised over his contract lifetime. ie he is owed money by Sheffield from ages ago which they came to an arrangement about paying over time. Now he's off he is owed those payments in full settlement of original sign on fees.
You can see why Sheff U would say, hang on we dont want you to go so we arent paying in one lumps sum. Stoke would be mad to cough for those its an issue between Beattie and SUFC.

£ 6 million is far too much.
£ 3.5 million is just about right.
Tony must be considering his options but I doubt if Pulis will match the asking price.
My guess is , that he will go for Dindane instead. He's younger, and may provide better value for money.

How fit is he though ? will he hit the ground running ? do we have time for him to get his fitness up to speed ? ..... will Batman escape the jokers dastardly trap ?... tune in next time, same bat time same bat channel. oops sorry, went off on a tangent there

Sheffield Utd paid FOUR million for him, 18 months ago after he had had a torrid time at Everton. So that's a Championship side taking a risk on a player who hadn't done very well during his time at a Premiership club. How does it then work that a Premiership side then gets to pay LESS for him when he's been absolutely on fire when buying him from a Championship club? Yep he might be 18 months older, but he's carries hardly anything like the same risk potential that he had when the Blades forked out 4 mil for him not so long ago.

To be fair, his torrid time came AFTER he had a injury, I don't think he ever got back to fitness after that, prior to that he was a very reasonable player, and regular in Moyes' Everton team, and even touted for England, he's gone to Sheff Utd regained his fitness and has been banging them in for them on a regular basis.

I think you've answered most of the doubts yourself . It's a much bigger risk asking a player to step up to the Premiership than down to say Sheffield UNITED. He is that bit older too, but as regards to the price, or prices quoted I think a lot of this is paper talk and speculation.
What I can tell you for Definite IS that 4 weeks ago I was talking to Cisse and he said that Stoke were looking at a French striker, who he said at the time the Brits had not heard of. He also said that he didn't like the travelling to Sunderland and that he would like to play for a club that was nearer to home. I suggested Stoke, and he smiled and said..."You pay me the money and I play for you.." half jokingly of course. He was dressed in an all white track suit and had his cap pulled down just showing his white beard at the time....and yes it was on the carpark at Tesco in Helsby. His daughter who was with him came over to see my dogs and that was how we got talking.

When they are in a play off position and he's absolutely banging the goals in for them. If I was their Chairman, Manager, or just a lowly (god forbid) supporter I would CERTAINLY want more than 4 mil (what they paid) for him. Look at it from THEIR PERSPECITIVE, rather than ours, how does it make sense to sell him at a loss. Imagine if WE were in their shoes, we are in a play off position, and OUR talisman striker is scoring for fun. Just imagine the outcry if WE then sold that player for LESS than we paid for him, we'd be storming the pitch and invading the Waddo suite. Wouldn't we?

It reflects the fact that he is that bit older and the risk in him moving up back into the 'Bigtime'.
I therefore suggest that in my opinion £ 3.5 million would be about right...He may only have another 2 seasons left in him anyway. ..Hence my reduced valuation to what Sheffield paid for him. Do you get my drift...? Sheffield United also have to weigh up if they can continue to pay his rather high wages and if they think they have a chance of promotion or not...ie whether it's better to cash in on him. They are probably just playing a waiting games to see if another club comes in with a ridiculous offer that beats Stokes.

If united hung to him for another season and he only was to score 5 goals next season , then his valuation would fall as flat as a 'witches tit', and that is something they and you need to bear in mind. They may prefer to take the money now ...and run.

The deal was all but done on Fri am but then their chairman started to realise how much stick he was gonna get if they sold beattie over the weekend so he puts the brakes on it
As long as he can pass the deal off as being a good one with the united supporters it will go ahead, that may take us to offer a decent player in return or them to agree a deal with a proven striker on a cheaper wage first but the main thing is that Beattie wants to come here so that will force their hand eventually. Expect a deal to be thrashed out before midweek.

I know the deal was done Friday am, as I heard a senior Stoke source say so (see my 'at the ground - interesting' thread) I don't think it's gonna be hard for themto get a stiker on a cheaper wage than Beatties...He was a massive wage earner at sheffield united, and he will come to Stoke I believe on the same wage, which will put him towards, if not the highest paid player at the club

The Mail's *cough* 'insider' gives it a 4/5 www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-1113186/THE-INSIDER-Cudicini-join-City-Beattie-make-Stoke-deal-Benjani-set-Portsmouth.html?ITO=1490James Beattie, Sheffield United to Stoke — 4/5
Beattie should complete his transfer to the Potteries despite a late hitch. The two clubs have shaken hands on a £3m deal but Beattie has asked for more time to consider it despite agreeing personal terms. Having decided to leave he is believed to prefer a move to former club Blackburn, but Sam Allardyce is unlikely to do any business until he banks £20m from Manchester City for Santa Cruz. Assuming the deal goes through, Stoke boss Tony Pulis will have achieved his primary target of signing a wide player (Matthew Etherington) and a striker.
