I think that we need to ain for one large away following of the season, in the remaning 7-8 or however many more away games there are. Like the 5000s we used to reularly take to places like wigan, notts county etc.
Crystal Palace looks the obvious one becasue it has a chacne of being no ID card game however it is quite a long way to go for unregular Stoke travellers.
Sheffield is reasonably local and has a large away end so i would like to see us fill up almost 4000 seats there. I know it's a lot with ID cards but i think with a following like that, the day is enjoyable for everyone even without a result.
Come on Stokies lets get one large following.

Right, good idea in theory but how do you propose getting bums on seats? we can't make every ID card holder buy a ticket for the game
So the question is how can we emulate large followings of days gone by?
Simple answer? We can't at the present time

We can't make though i'm sure they'd all enjoy one big following, i enjoyed them more!
We can put it in the oatcake, on here, ask the club to advertise for a set game or something, i don't know, i'll leave that to Smudge, my proposal he can sort it out.
That aright Smudge mate?

I'm only 15 but i think I've still been gonig away for about 8 years now. Wrexham was always good, i used to look forward to that every year becasue we normalyl won and it was jsut fun, reading didn't go the last game of season one but went the ngiht match where we still took 1200, Wigan we always used to do well though this year we took about 200. Luton a few years ago we took a large following and the large following had fun and satrting chanting brian littles got no money, both sheffields were good but Notts County was one of the best, especially when Bjarni scoed from 25 yards in the first minute and with 5000 or so Stoke fans jumping up and donw you could feel the satnd shaking.
THe good oldish days.

Ok you are right days gone by away days used to be really good. but we have to accept that with ID cards, it's never going to return to exactly how it used to be
West Ham this season showed that even though our crowds are smaller we do not need big crowds for a match to be fun.
Unless Stoke do a reward scheme for a one off away game - like free travel or something (not that i'm saying this is finacially possibly) I can't see a way of getting an increased attendance back into the tohusands

It would be nice to have a large away following agin, but without the ID cards a very small minority of "knuckle draggers" are bound to turn up (ala palace .. 1000 plus extra, but about 100-200 idiots amongst the "good guys")
guests on ID cards are best option , summat fans forum are pursuing I believe

3,300 the official figure for that Notts County New Year's away game, some of our followings have a habit of growing when spoke about in hindsight. I have a full list of away followings for Stoke from various seasons in front of me, ranging from our 1992/93 and 2001/02 promotion seasons + a few other years in between.
Will put them online tomorrow...

very close dave... average was 3,095 for League games, while if you add the cup games away at Port VĂ¡le, Wrexham, Preston and Cambridge it would have been 2,957

I would imagine that no1stokie will get his wish at Crewe. Either officially or unofficially and particularly if our form remains on the side of good. If our form dips and we remain mid table or below, then I would doubt there will be any other large followings apart from Crewe.

Also, another point.
How many clubs that we've visited over the last ten years are capable of dishing out anything like 4-5000 anyway.
Can't be many I wouldn't have thought ??? ???

Becks,
As the club make a profit from away coaches I see no reason why they couldn't lay on free transport to one game.
Notts Forest perhaps (as it's close and wouldn't cost them as much), or Sheffield United.

I think if they half the cost of the coaches for a game then they just might get twice as many people going on it.
I should get my wish at Crwho yer but it doesn't count. It's a small end and very local.

Bury was another good one a few years ago when we more than filled the end, and had more fans than them.
Let me know when you put the list up please?
