Every1 says hes good but everytime ive seen him hes done fook all. like every1 says with us he will rarely get the ball into his feet and be able to run a game. so to spend 7 mill on him is a big risk. still we need new faces, so i wudnt be too pist off

read that myself last night on teamtalk, great signing but 7m??? he is potentially a top class player, but 7m is a bloody big gamble, hopefully it will only be 4 million up front with the rest being add ons and bonuses if we stay up etc

The most worrying comment of all -
'He prefers central midfield but is stuck on the left'

This is a signing for the future. We need someone who is going to keep us up over the next few games. Is Ledley ready to make the immediate impact required? I fear he isn't, he will take up a large percentage of our transfer budget and be a bit part player.

There are so many parts of this transfer, at this fee, that would make no sense.
The fee which, when considering the buying club's finances, would be one of, if not the craziest, of the last decade, for an admittedly promising player who isn't even delivering every week in the C'ship.
The fact he's universally seen as much better in central midfield and we obviously see him as an answer to the left hand-side problem.
The fact he's got no pace. If the pace injection isn't going to come at LM, where's it going to come from?
The fact that we need an immediate impact in the next 4 months, and we're thinking about shelling out £7m on a player who's never played in the Prem - and a large part of his fee is based on 'promise' and 'potential.

Well we need a left midfielder for sure and he looks to have ability if not pace (which is what we're crying out for.) I have reservations (to say the least) about the fee mentioned but if PC is ok with it I don't see why we should worry to be honest. I am however convinced that there must be a better, quicker and more experienced left winger available abroad for that sort of money.

if pulis is unwilling to change his 4 4 1 1 formation it will be pretty pointless aswell, the current tactics we play means ledley will never get a kick of the ball anyway. if.... however he has him and lawrence occupying the flanks and played kitson in his natural position we could become a very attractive side that will be solid, hard working and creative

'capable of getting even better with good coaching'
well he shouldn't come here then, our coaching comprises of teaching players to fuck the ball off as far as possible up the pitch as soon as they get it, a deliberate ploy to avoid having possession

How far is Stoke from Cardiff, france, Birmingham etc.
People have been to the moon and back quicker than players arrive at Stoke in a transfer window.

It's difficult to say whether he's worth £7m without seeing him play regularly, which presumably Stoke's scouts and coaching staff have. This supposed lack of pace and his preferred position being central midfield is a concern, but Pulis never plays creative players in the middle.
I think £7m is a reflection of his potential, Premier League cash, and the premium for good young British players.

I think those of you saying he's not worth £7m are completely missing the point. If we are to believe what we read he is the BIG window signing for us. In the overall scheme of things whether we pay £4m, £5m, £6m or £7m is not that important when you think that Pulis has already pissed away £10-15m of the close season expenditure. What really matters is whether he would be the key signing who makes the difference for us. I am tempted to think IF Pulis plays Lawrence and Ledley as wide men, and we start playing football to feet with those 2 delivering balls in to Kitson and one other up front, then it may just be the thing that turns our season around. But is depends on two very big ifs: 1. Can Pulis abandon hoofball? I am not sure he can. 2. Is Ledley good enough? I freely admit I don't know.

I think it's dead funny all these 'football experts' on here saying, buy him but no more that x amount.
IT'S NOT YOUR MONEY!!!!! You haven't got to chip in you know!
If PC has got it, let him spend it. If Tone has said 'Pete we need him, him, him, him, and him' and Pete says 'how much would they all cost' and Tone says 'x' amount, then if PC say's 'that's fine then go get them' then that is all that matters it he thinks these are the players he needs.
If it doesn't affect, and judging by how much Tone has been smiling on interviews compared to his usual straight face it doesn't appear to be, then don't worry your little heads off.

People also seem to think that if a player fails then we put up a green tent around them and put one between their eyes? Fact is, you sell people on if it doesn't work out, and someone like Ledley has great re-sale value, hell we might even get a profit...

And also Mark, as long as it doesn't affect other transfers, which it won't as they wouldn't be doing it. They will have set their targets out and if they are all 'getable' then we will get them.

I think this would be a fantastic signing, 7 million would be a good deal if you look at his age and potential - clubs such as Arsenal, Everton and Spurs were/are interested so i think anything under 8 million would be a good deal , he's scored away at Russia ! Ledley on the left and Lawrence on the right would be perfect, finally people who can hold the ball up that top end and swing some decent service in for Mama and Ric.

he works aarrd!!! seriously on their message boards it says he does! does well at keeping possession, good eye for goal, can create, he sounds and looks (only glimpses) a decent player. lets face it you dont need lightning pace to beat a man. i hope he comes and supplies the ammunition to keep us up, but im worried that for 7m he wont get a sniff of the ball

Doesn't say much though does it? Lost count of the times i've listed all the things that this midfield maestro Whelan doesn't do....Cross a ball, take a corner, pass forward etc.etc. I'm not going to predict what Ledley can/can't do as i haven't seen enough of him to make comments too much, but going on what other people say, stoke and cardiff, is that he does look good when in control of the ball and going forward with it.
Where as Whelan passes back to Faye when in possession, Ledley sounds like he can slip the ball through, like Lawrence did for that fantastice Fuller goal against Villa.
