Ledley named in Bluebirds line-up Cardiff handed a start to Joe Ledley in Saturday's FA Cup clash with Reading despite the winger closing on a £7million move to Stoke.
Ledley: Unlikely to take on Royals Send to friend Ledley has 18 months left on his deal at Ninian Park and has previously insisted he would like to see that out. However he does not want to pen an extension and so the Bluebirds lookm likely to sell him this month to get the best possible price for the Wales star.
Newcastle became the latest club to be linked with Ledley earlier this week but he is not believed to be a top target of Joe Kinnear's and so Stoke remain in pole position to complete a deal for the 21-year-old this month.
Everton - also long-term admirers - have no money available for transfers but the Potters are willing to match Cardiff's £7million asking price and TEAMtalk understands Peter Ridsdale has already sanctioned the move.
The Bluebirds chairman refused to let Ledley speak to Stoke in the summer after turning down a £6million bid on transfer deadline day, but he has since become resigned to losing the midfielder after failing to persuade him into the boardroom for contract talks.
Ledley could complete his move to the Britannia Stadium in time for Stoke's clash with Liverpool next weekend.
Meanwhile Tony Pulis has handed a trial to Senegal international Lamine Diatta.
The former Newcastle defender has been without a club since leaving St James' Park at the end of last season.
He has since rejected a number of contract offers including one from Sochaux.
The 33-year-old is now set to get the chance to try his luck in England once again.
Diatta will link up with the Potters from Monday.

I can't wait to see Ledley and Kitson playing together, I bet Tone can't either. I'm certain that's what he was expecting in September.

£7million, £4million too much for quite an average player imo.

We need experienced Premiership players, not more signings for the future.

Sal. when Kitson signed he talked of being impressed by the names he was given of potential recruits. We can assume Soares/Tonge/Oli were not on the list

Pulis and many other managers seem to really rate him, he must have something about him ? ... he's also a naturally left footed player, which would give us some balance to the team, I think the price tag also reflects the potential, he's probably not the finished article yet, he's only 21 isn't he ?

There've been only very vague links in the press to back up this supposed high regard from Wenger, Moyes and Kinnear though, serps. He does seem promising, but he hasn't consistently pulled up any trees in the league below. And I saw a poll on the Cardiff board where 95% of their fans wanted him to remain in central midfield, where they think he's looked twice the player. I think it's fair to say we won't be buying him for CM, and have got our heart set on him as a very definite answer to our LM woes. And he doesn't seem the type of left-sider that we're desperate for to offer us a bit of variety. But Pulis is clearly desperate to get him, and he'll live or die by his calls. It'll certainly be a massively contentious decision if he goes up to £7m on him.

Just get him signed up i say! We desperatley need some quality down the left and decent service to the front men (not inc Vince!).
Lets get Harewood in as well. Got a feeling he would be a cracking signing for us despite the critisism he gets.

Indeed FM, as far as I'm aware there hasn't been one single quote from any of these managers expressing their desire to sign the lad. Who says agents don't work for their money? No doubting the lads ability, but he himself, Jones and the Cardiff supporters all see him as a central midfielder.

If we sign him for any more than £3 million then the rest is waste of money.
Take a gamble for £100k the lad on the wing for Hartlepool today,by all accounts he ran us ragged!

I would certainly rather a out and out winger with pace, and someone with a burst of pace, but when you think about it any winger would only be effective away from home, our small pitch at home isn't really designed to have wingers, as we've seen some of the best (the best?) wingers in the world come and look virtually anonymous.
I certainly think we should bring in a winger with a bit of pace for away games.

Any winger who can run in a straight line on a decent size pitch would run us ragged.

For Christ's sake this is the Prem. You got to pay for the right players. £2-3 million gets you mediocre workhorses and we have loads of them. We need some CLASS- people who can influence games

If as some of you have stated he's only worth 3m then we'd lose him to Everton or A N Other hard up top flight club, British players are always over-priced anyway.
Ps; 2 lines Serps.
