As one who survived '71 and '72 Seymour its feir to say that then we had been established in the top league for 10-12 years. This season our only target is survival and an improved squad next year

A question :- Will man city fans be giving their club the death of a thousand cuts tonight -dont forget they splashed £30million plus on one player and they dont know how they will play week to week either !
no doubt some - the weaker minded ones will be !

One difference.....their future is known, ours is in the hands of Mr Pulis & no one knows which way that may be heading.

AND I'LL FREELY CONCEDE, the Fa CUP ACTUALLY MEANT SOMETHING IN 1970 - 71
now it doesnt actually - but thats another debate I'll not repeat - just print out the finalists since the premier league was formed - you'll soon get the idea

So. if we reached the semi finals the like of UKyes would stayat home would they? I seem to remember the same people using the same line following the Derby defeat, it was garbage then and remains so now.
We are in the Premiership so how ebarassing is it to be unable to field any strikers worthy of the name in the starting line up? That can only be the manager's fault.

To be honest Tony, I go to support my team, but after todays show, support can't help them.

It must be my age. I honestly felt that the FA Cup was something worth busting a gut for, particularly when we get an "easy" draw like Hartlepool away. "O tempora, O mores!" as me old mate Cicero once said.

Fair enough UKYes, I applaud your amazing gift for tolerance. Me. I just want Stoke to win and hopefully show a little style in the process.

Indeed we do.
Not well within, or even likely to be within our capability, as we stand (IMHO).

Tony, I admire your optimism and your "call to the cause". It's no claim to fame, but I've been a supporter since 1961, pretty much a regular, and even called for Waddos head when we weren't doing so well. But the football we're playing now is dire, and I'm really still amazed that we actually reached the promised land of the premier division of football given the paucity of "footballing skills" in the squad. I do like "results" football, there's no better feeling than walking away after a win. But there's not much worse, than feeling humilliated after another defeat like to-day. Cup defeats against Hartlepool and Derby, although not significant in our quest for recognition as regular Premiership performers, do signal the recognition of our abillities in the football world. At the moment, we are probably seen as nonentities, doomed to instant relegation from the top division. Doesn't anyone else fear that we could just keep on falling? We've been outplayed, both home and away, by less than mediocur lower division teams. When will it stop? I think that Peter Coates needs to take a radical rethink of our current situation. All praise to T.P for getting us here, against all odds, but it seems obvious to me that he doesn't have the "nouse" to keep us in this competitive league and I think our recent results record strongly confirm this. Now is the time to say "Thanks Tony"but we need to "Pushon"! It's been a long, too long, time since we were part of the elite,so lets not waste the euphoric experience. Being selfish, if we have to wait for another 23 years to rejoin the elite, there's no chance of me enjoying the experience. I think that you younger supporters, should seriously consider the situation. It's time to take some drastic action.

sometimes it's not about the winning because you'll play well and lose (and draw).
To some folk, it's all about the trying to win and playing with a winning mentality.
On those counts - away from home - we have been severely negligent. That's what p***** me off, and I expect a fair few others too.
TP's quote of "well, we matched Hartleppol in the first half", is a total disgrace to this football club. The only good thing about our away performnces this season, is that I've saved sh***** of money which is needed elsewhere.
I've travelled all over the UK to watch Stoke lose, and that's part of being a supporter. But wth other commitments I refuse to spend top dollar to watch us go out and simply avoid defeat. In some games, yes, you have to - but we have become synonymous with boring, pragmatic, unexciting and shameful away displays.
I doff me cap to those who go and support the team away from home, but I simply won't pay good money to see a team sacerd to get out of its own half of the pitch. If that makes me a second class supporter so be it.

Well if you can't moan about the clueless utter garbage we've witnessed recently, when can you moan?
Asking for some kind of performance against a poor Third Division Team who have only kept 3 clean sheets all season, with a reserve strikeforce and a 4-1 drubbing by Crewe in their last game is not asking too much.
