plays Cresswell ahead of Tonge on the wing.
We all saying that tonge should be given a chance blah blah. and I was one of the main culprits in the Cresswell is wank play tonge brigade. But what we have seen of Tonge in the EPL was 15 minutes or so here and there.
Tonge had a shocker today, started off quite bright but faded pretty quickly, so now i see why he icks a work horse liek cresswell ahead of him

I'm not saying you're not right but if you are then it's a sorry state of affairs that we blew £2.5M of our budget on Tonge.

To be fair, we all shout that we want wingers etc, but we don't get it out wide. We are that inpatient that we just launch it straight away. I love Shawcross but he is the biggest culprit. I though Tonge was good first half just his final ball let him down, he was dreadful 2nd half but he was not alone

Smudge I was saying that on the coach on the way home, and the only thing that we could come up with,
It got to 10 oclock on transfer deadline day..and panicked

Pulis plays Cresswell because he is better and he isn't, some questions need to be asked concerning how much we have wasted on some of the players that were supposed to be better than what we already had.

To not be able to replace an out-of-position Richard Cresswell in 2 years, and spend over £3 million in supposedly trying to do so (Pugh, Tonge, Pearson on loan) is just rubbish management.
Tonge may not be the answer, but I can't imagine he'd be any worse than Cresswell, and he at least deserves a run of games.

because of his style of football, pulis won't be able to sign the players we really need!

Tonge seems like a good impact player to me. He didn't impress when he started against Portsmouth. I don't think he's fit enough for a start. But its just despairing to see Cressy on the wing so I for one hoping he could start and do a job. However, I don't think he can.

I know we've only seen brief glimpses of him on the left, but I always thought that Tonge was primarily a central midfielder anyway? (An area where we're already overstocked with dross).
It all makes spending £2.5 million on him even more frightening.

We've blown a lot of money though, Tonge, Kitson (though I think will come good), Olofinjana.
But I wouldn't blame Pulis for this, because all of them have good histories and at one stage had a lot of potential, just haven't quite paid off, hopefully he's learnt from his mistakes and will sign some quality this month

And when he did start previously (at Pompey) he was also wank.
But I'm going to defend Pulis here ...
It's appears that he was concentrating his efforts on bringing Ledley and Pennant to the club, whilst Rudge (or whoever) was working on a list of 'safety net' players.
We don't know that Tonge and Soares were necessarily the automatic 'B list' players, there could have been others that we don't know about, who didn't come for whatever reason.
Indeed they both could have been 'D, E or F' list signings.
Tonge has said he wasn't approached by Stoke until 10pm on deadline day!
Anybody who says that Stoke should have had their signings tied up at an earlier point, are actually being rather naive, it often just doesn't work that way ... look at the size and reputation of a club like Man U, they got Berbatov in with minutes to spare, with Spurs having denied them even permission to talk to the player ON DEADLINE DAY!
If with minutes to go on deadline day it became apparent, that your A list, or B list and so on, signings weren't going to come through, would any of us have said "fuck it, we'll just go with what we've got"?
No we would have spent the money and hoped that with a bit of luck at least one of them would have come good.
Yes they are both poor signings, but at 4 minutes to midnight on the last deadline day, I can understand why they ended up at Stoke.

Ok then lets give the games/minutes that cresswell has had to Tonge down the left and actually give him the ball to feet and see what he can do or create in that time and if he just crosses one ball to a stoke shirt or have a shot on target then he will have done more than cresswell has done ALL SEASON so your point is?

I think the point is, that disappointingly, neither Tonge or Soares have (in Pulis' eyes) made the grade. If the consistently rubbish Cresswell and at times completely crocked Delap can make the starting eleven ahead of them, then quite frankly, they must be pretty dreadful in training.
Tonge hadn't been pulling up any trees at Sheffield Utd in his CENTRAL MIDFIELD role for a couple of seasons now, and there were plenty of Palace fans with misgivings about Soares.
Penkponther made this comment a while ago, and I think it holds a lot of water:
"I think we the fans will always occasionally clamour for "overlooked" reserve team players to come in and replace perceived "weak-link" first team players. ........ Heck; if I was manager, we'd probably even still be playing Adam Vass in midfield and Adam Rooney upfront; I spent long enough championing their cause - despite the fact that they were probably in the reserves for a very good reason: namely that they played like girls!"
