Found this on the Guardian website (don't ask me who Charles Reep is):- football.guardian.co.uk/fiver/0,,415657,00.html THE CHARLES REEP TACTICAL INNOVATION OF THE YEAR AWARD Rory Delap's new long throw. It's new! And long! So very long, in fact, that the backdraft it causes while whizzing through the air has completely blown away all the brain cells of every football journalist in the land. For they might otherwise remember that, for years, Gary Neville has been doing much the same thing whenever aesthete's choice Manchester United get desperate. It's not actually that new, this tactic, is it?

Wing Commander (as I recall) Charles Reep was once the scourge of football and renowned for POMO, the position of maximum opportunity.
He sold it to many managers, sadly for us, including Richie Barker and was the prime statistical 'genius', before Sam Allardyce took them all on.

Charles Reeps ideas were developed by Charles Hughes.
The moral of this tale is don't let a Charles near football!
