With half an eye on the possible forced West Ham exodus in January perhaps one player who's not on everyone's radar is Dean. I know he's recovering from surgery and expected to return in January, from what I've read. He could be an ideal option for TP.

Pointy are you serious?? Can't hack what he is one of the best english forwards!! Started like a rocket at West Ham two years ago. Hasn't been the same since breaking his ankle, put on a lot of weight. Great player when on form, hasn't really been on form for a while.

If nothing else perhaps good for a loan for the rest of the season if West Ham will do such a deal, but with their lack of finances they'll be happy to get his wages of their books for a while, at least.

He's got bags and bags of ability and still quite young but he's never fit. it would be a total waste of money if we signed him. we need players that can go straight into the team and be able to stay there.

Boys if we signed Dean Ashton i would run round Hanley naked. When fit he is quality, theres been talk linking him with the top 4 in the past. Theres no way he would come to Stoke.

He hasn't been fit for around two and a half years though. That's the point.

I think we have more chance of signing Dean Gaffney to be honest. Time will tell I suppose.

ashton's a great player when he plays but he's as bad as darren anderton when it comes to injuries. it would be a gamble

Just Googled Dean Gaffney- looks too greasy to be a Pulis signing. Ashton would cost about 8 million surely

He hasn't been fit for around two and a half years though. That's the point. Wasn't Fuller the same before we had him? The difference being that Fuller cost what, £100,000? Ashton would cost significantly more. I'm not saying he'd be a bad signing (although as RAF says, there's likely no chance whatsoever anyway) but it would be a huge gamble given his fitness problems, and given that we need someone who can go straight into the team and fit into our style of play.

VARIOUS PAPERS - & to be fair they are often full of b/s - have linked him recently with the likes of Villa & Everton so forget it.
+ there is his £50K+ wages.

He is the ultimate sicknote. Only if his wages are ok.

Lucas Neill is on £70K+ !!!!!!!!
West Ham will obvioulsy have to sell sell sell in Jan but thee arnt many clubs who could afford their players wages & those that can may not want those players.
can see West ham doing a Leeds selling players for nothing & paying large % of wages for years after they have played for them.
with Albion looking doomed & Blackburn seemingly in freefall the 3 relegation spots could be sown up.
if Owen leaves Newcastle in jan too the tbh we might not need even 40 points this year.

Thats if West Ham with all the Icelandic problems dont get penalised for any financial insecurities. Think how lucky we are....if we were still an Icelandic venture today, where would we be?

Id rather someone who is fit now. We need a striker now not in a few months or whenever he is fit again.

When fit, Ashton is a quality player. Can't see him coming to Stoke though. On the fringe of the England squad when not on the treatment table. For me seems a shoe-in for a team like Everton, Villa. Mid table stalwarts (Yes, I realise Everton's current position but just meaning Ashton will go to a steady Prem club, not a promoted side)
