do what exactly? What is their sole purpose at a football match? I always believed it was to watch the fans in case of invasions, fighting, or simply to direct first time fans to the toilets or other such things.
Every football ground I go to with work is the same. The stewards just sit there watching the match, one at Everton even gave a ball to his mate during the warm up ffs!!!
As I watched the FA cup match last night I noticed that we too have stewards who get paid to watch the match....sorry, get paid to watch the fans.
Football stewards.....you really are......LIKE MY @rse.

I used to be a Steward fro th 1989/90 season through to 1992/93. At that time I got a tenner for working between midday and about 5 ish. It was allright to be fair and I'll have to admit that i did spend more time watching the game than the fans, to the point of even going nuts when we scored (not that often 1989/90!).
But there were Stewards whon took their jobs more seriously than I and they do carry out an important function, namely keeping the policing costs down and our ground open!!!

My Mrs is a steward in the john smiths stand,Shes normally on the fire exit doors but during the West Brom game she was asked to cover down the bottom by the pitch,Whilst there Ricardo scored the 3rd goal then a group of what she called about 25/30 years old blokes jumped the bottom wall in celebration and as she tried to usher them back she got a smack in the mouth and a fractured jaw for her efforts, Surprise surprise no other steward saw which one it was and nothing was done. I told her if she go's back once able, i'll smack her in it

I've discovered how good our stewards are since I've been in a wheelchair, don't knock them!

Just wondered if you sat in the JS because prior to this season I was the SCWIM attendant for about six years, so wondered if I knew you, that's all.

I've discovered how good our stewards are since I've been in a wheelchair, don't knock them! The ones that don't tell people in front of the disabled area to sit down when the disabled people can't see?
