All I"ve done today on this board is read about what is wrong with our style of play, what the media think about us, why are we playing TWO holding midfielders at home, blah blah blah
FFS our club has come on leaps and bounds in the last 12 months, and like it or lump it, we are mixing it with the best in this country and some of the best in Europe
Granted, our away form is pretty dismal (as are our performances), but this year has proven beyond doubt that the gulf that many people say exist between the Big Four and the rest of the Premiership, is not that apparent
Liverpool have now had three goalless draws at home (Us, Fulham and West Ham), all sides that they would EXPECT to beat and probably beat comfortably, but still head the table by a point
To my mind that is great credit to the likes of ourselves and Hull for not rolling over to the so called elite, and getting stuck in and mixing it with the best. Being an old Stokie and seeing the likes of the 72 side, plus the sublime skills of Huddy makes you appreciate what GOOD FOOTBALL is, but the game has changed today. Sides have to battle to stay in this league, and that is why we are doing as well as we are.
Financially, we have no chance of competing with the likes of Liverpool, Manure and Chelski, but lets get one thing straight - we are one game away from a two legged semi final in the Lager Cup, and holding our own in the league.
Every single one of us has the right to their opinion, and much as I would like to see us roll sides over consistently at the Brit, and go away and produce good attacking football, it certainly is not going to happen.
Stoke City are what we are - a hard working, physical side, but we DO HAVE A CUTTING EDGE with the likes of Ricardo, and we CAN give ANYBODY a game
I have also read today that our "weapon" with the Rory throw, is now becoming a bit sterile, but come on folks, we cannot possibly score from a Rory throw in every single game. If it works, then stick to it. Rics header from Rorys throw on Saturday was a nailed on goal apart from a really superb save from their keeper Myhill, and may have given us another valuable win and taken us into 8th place.
What exactly do some of us want - we ARE holding our own with the best, and long may it continue.
If we do stay up (and I really do think we will), next season will provide a stiffer test of our resolve. Sides will know that we have a tighter pitch than most, sides will know exactly what to expect - but then that is what the manager is paid for - consolidation this season, and take it from there next season and try and show improvement yet again.
At the start of the campaign I really thought we would struggle big time. Where are the goals coming from - Kitson (say no more), Mama (not a goalscorer), Ricardo (blows hot and cold even in the CCC) - yet here we are at the beginning of December, looking down on the likes of the richest club in the world, the Yids, Newcastle, Roy Keanes £70 million etc etc
I really dont want to sound like Ted ;D, but I am sick of reading the negativity on this board day after day after day.
If you are Stoke then get down the ground, sing your hearts out, and if we give it our best shot and still go down, then we have the memories to look back on
We HAVE drawn at Anfield, we HAVE beaten Wengers Southern Softies, and we have beaten MONs highly rated Villa - and its still only the first of December

Spot on mate. Read the Paul Jewell thread on here, at last someone in the mainstream who is honest and respectful about us.

Hey i'm with you but have you ever heard of resting on your laurels. We're doing miles better than i thought we would but now we're here and mixing it it doesn't mean that a few things couldn't be improved on surely? Away performances being top of the list where we need to compete more and push out a little bit more. Yes we've got 2 good points but they were lucky and i wouldn't expect many more playing like that.
So have we had a fantastic start - YES. Anyone who says otherwise is an idiot.
Could we have done a bit better in a few games - YES aswell and if we can't talk about them then why is this forum even here to be honest?

Well said cfg, from another guy brought up on a diet of Hudson, Greenhoff et al. This year was all about grit, determination and bridging the gap between the Champ and the Prem. So far we've 18 pts from 15 games, so we're doing owrate If the manager wants to play his two enforcers in central midfield, then who am I to argue? We've just won 4 and drawn 1 of our last 5 home games, so it's not exactly failing. As for the throw in? Yes, very nearly a goal and still causing panic. We have goalkeepers preferring to give away corners, subs getting involved in gamesmanship, and I've never seen so many visiting fans jumping up and down and celebrating the fact that they have merely survived a Humble throw in ;D

Quite agree Trumpton - I"m with you all the way there
The draws at Anfield and Wigan were two valuable points, but we do seem set in our ways away from home, and I can fully understand why supporters are moaning at our performances away from the Brit.
To go and defend for 90 minutes away from home at any team in the land is suicidal if you concede the first goal, because the likelihood of getting back into the game is virtually nil.
If we take 7000 to Blackburn, I would be absolutely gutted to come home losing to a late goal (whatever), I would much rather us go there, have a go, and try and beat another side that may be in the mix at the end of the season.
I have not missed a home game this season, and have travelled to Man Citeh and Wigan away
I was happier coming away from Eastlands than I was from the JJB, because at Citeh we did at least look like scoring, even though we were on the end of a Robinho hat-trick.
Boro away, I watched on the stream, and we seemed quite competent, but we got nothing, but I totally agree, there is definately room for improvement (in attitude) away from home.

Fuller I agree with you up to a point The one reason we have got as many points as we have ....................................is the fans You and me and everybody else Watch pullis on the touchline, always urging the players further up the pitch,do they do it,do they fuck, only when the crowd is urging them on do they attack the best fans in the land without a doubt pullis and co,urging the fans to get behind the team, they turn out in numbers if the team was half as good as the fans,we would be safe by now! it is time for the team to turn up and be counted donkeys supported by lions i'll get me tin hat

I suggest you read this board without a seive that only drags out the posts that get you in a rage , as you are clearly skipping the vast majority that would clam you down

Boycey - I dont know what to make of your post
I know exactly what you are saying - cos me and my mate said exactly the same on Saturday - when its hostile, we look like we can beat anyone
The atmosphere has been a bit flat for Sunderland, Brazil and Dull, but we have still mustered 7 points from 9.
If TP is waving the players forward, then why arent they responding?
2-0 down to Everton, the crowd was still behind the team, and in all honesty, it should have paid off (back to 2-2) and a good goal disallowed.
WE SHOULD BE FRIGHTENED OF NOBODY - ESPECIALLY AT HOME
