A man from Samaritans who is operating with the 'Operation Christmas Child' movement is selling Stoke City teddy bears fro £1 at Stoke against Hull. No idea where he will be but I was assured by the man (He came into our school you see) that all proceeds will be going straight to the Samaritans to pay for Bricks to build a couple of schools in West Africa somewhere. The other possibility is the money goes straight to funding operation Christmas child. If anyone see's him tommorrow please buy a tedyy Bear as it is for a very worthy cause and is all good fun. And for those not taking their children tommorrow... A cheap little stocking filler

As much as i admire people for helping out parts of Africa what i find hard to understand is where the £400m that we have given as a country has gone over the past X amount of years? And that is just money from the UK.
My son was asked by his school to make a shoebox to send to Africa but also to enclose £2.50 for p&p. We were going to put one of his old toys in that he no longer plays with instead of throwing it away. BUT we were told all presents had to be new! Why? Surely any child is grateful of ANY toy?

If it was for building schools over here no problem but as the above post says. Where has all the money gone? We need to sort our own mess out before helping others.

And that is just money from the UK. SP, the size of Africa, £400 million isn't as much as you may think. I doubt it's even made a dent in their problems. For example, the new hospital in Birmingham when completed will cost £559 million, this is for the building alone, without wages, drugs, equipment etc. Now i'm not saying by any stretch of the imagination, that these countries will get anything like the super structure in Brum, but thats just one city in one country. If you divide that 400 million between the countries that need it, then divide it by the cities that need it, and again divide it by the things that they need, i.e hospitals, water, medication, shelter etc etc,it suddenly doesn't seem to be that much money at all...

good point ghost. But surely if we have raised £400m then other countries must have done a few quid too so where does it go? Or maybe it is best not to ask.

Did anyone see them being sold today or not? Bit dissappointed that I couldn't find him! Promised me he was keeping one for my sister!
Didn't tell me where he was going to be so don't know where he was situated... He may have been wearing a jacket with three bears on each arm and a hat with a teddy on!
