Just been talking to my buddy at Charlton. He's a friend of Pardew and has usually worked for him wherever he's gone. He said they all thought that the end was coming, none more so that Pardew who is entirely philisophical about it. Anyhow like any club that doesn't go straight back up they're absolutely broke, still paying near Premiership wages and at the foot of the Championship. It seems Pardew was told to offload some high earners before he would be able to bring anybody else in. He loaned out Ambrose and with the resulting wages was due to pick up both Whelan and Pericard on loan. Pulis and Pardew have been mates for years, and usually their positions have been reversed, Pardew now thinking it was about time for Pulis to help him out for a change. Anyway Pardew thought he would have them by the start of November but Pulis kept stalling because he thought he still needed Whelan. It's all too late now of course. I did mention that Pardew must have needed sacking if he rated big Vince and my man did say that he wouldn't be his first choice either but then there isn't a lot out there when you're trying to replace Iwelumo, and he has played for Juventus ;D My man also said that we have one of the strongest reserve teams around, nobody but nobody has our experience and he thinks that given a run at it our reserves could win the Championship!

Nice bit of info, and We do seem to have a good reserve team, getting good results. But - be careful saying 'my man' so much, some people on here don't like that kind of thing

Whelan wouldn't like it there as the pitch is too crap in winter!

Why did Charlton get rid of Iwelumo - he couldn't have been on huge wages?

Why did Charlton get rid of Iwelumo - he couldn't have been on huge wages? they got him on a free from colchester after he'd scored all those goals for them and probably would have expected to pay £1m+ otherwise so wouldn't be surprised if he was getting 15-20k a week as they also had Varney, Gray, Todorov and McLeod so probably a case of whoever they got the first half decent offer for was sold.

Silly wages to pay to a Championship striker even though he has proved more prolific than he was when he was at Stoke.

Do we think that Whelan will be off in January? I cannot understand how he isn't getting much pitch time. The Hull match would be a good start for him maybe?

my understanding - via a personal friend of Iwelumo's - was that big Chris was on VERY good wages at Charlton but that Wolves are paying @ least teh same if not more.

All very believable... Pardew was at our recent Chelsea reserve game ....scribbling notes...not that they counted for anything in the end !

I'm glad we've held on to Glenn, although if this is true it sounds like we were prepared to let him go. He's a very good player to have in the squad and he's proved it with his Carling Cup performances, I'd like to see him given a little bit more of a first team chance.

We need strength in depth, he helps to provide that.

The most worrying thing is that Pardew is now out of work. Our Tone has a habit of giving his unemployed mates a bit of coaching work
