You are quarter of a mile away from the far corner flag- FACT! NB- Distance probably depends if you are sitting on the back row or not

I was on the back row in the corner in January and for the first time, I could not tell Cort and Shawcross apart! ;D

Incidentally, those who claim that the far corner of the pitch is a quarter of a mile away from the top of the away corner don't know their geometry! It must be between 150 and 175 yards at most. Still ridiculously far away though.

Will be my first visit to St James’ this time round. Looking at the picture above I can’t see me enjoying it much (I bloody hate heights!!)

Me and a few friends went on a tour of the stadium last year and we were told by the tour guide that you are quarter of a mile from the centre spot Fact!! Also if you are sat at the top of the stand behind the goal your officially sat in the highest seat in the football league..... I can't see the tour guide getting his facts wrong somehow?

Me and a few friends went on a tour of the stadium last year and we were told by the tour guide that you are quarter of a mile from the centre spot Fact!! That would make the stadium over half a mile wide. Somehow I doubt this.

jezza it is simple geometry. The square of the diagonal of the pitch is equal to the square of the length of the pitch plus the square of the breadth. To this must be added the distance from the top seat in the stand to the near corner flag and this is the square of the height of the stand plus the square of the outside corner of the stand to the corner flag. That will give you a slight over estimate of the distance from your seat to the far flag because instead of taking a single line of sight you have taken a line from your eye to the near corner flag and then from one corner flag the one diagonally opposite!
Easy peasy - and that figure you get will be less than 200 yards - ie less than half the figure the guide told you. ;D

This is the one ground I had waited years for to go and when I finally did attend last season was bitterly disapointed! I don't think sitting in the sky helped much at all, infact I watched quite abit of the second half in the concourse as it was that bad in my opinion. However, despite the lack of the view I will be travelling as always to watch the mighty Potters. Hopefully this game we can get something from, if we go in the right frame of mind (attack).

Yeah, agreed pday. If you look back at our little trip up there in January, we started off really well and had two wonderful chances to score (Shawcross and Lawrence). Five minutes later, Owen scores.
We should have nothing to fear going up there and need to try and take the game to them.
It reminded me of subbuteo last season- it was a horrible game to watch (regardless of the scoreline).

I am told from the resident Geordie that we are in the Sir John Hall Stand (Leazes End) which is as high but more or less behind the goal (1/3 of the stand)
