I wouldn't say that was illegal. The ball wasn't in the keeper's hands, he didn't foul him, I would've given that.
What's the rule that dissallowed that?

something to do with the fact the kick out from the keeper is a combination of letting the ball out of the hands before he kicks it, it is all classed as one move and has to be completed i think. ???

They class it as still being in the keepers posession until he kicks it. Besides if they allowed it it would become a farce as everyone would be having a dance with the keeper, they'll will be kicking the bottom of attackers boots etc etc

Yes, Banbury is right. The whole act of kicking the ball by the keeper is considered to be one move and he should not be challenged whilst he is doing it.
Presumably the rule is as it is because of safety concerns - too much scope for injury if the rule wasn't like that.

Keeper still apparently has control of the ball till he has kicked it, you cant let it go imagine strikers just sniffing waiting for the keeper to release the ball, it would be mayhem at every opportunity, right decision IMO !

Fair enough - I agree it would become a farce if that was legal. Thanks for clearing it up

I remember seeing Rudi Voeller do it about three times to one keeper...two goals and a peno when the Keeper rugby tackled him!

How long as it actually been illegal for ? was it a farce before it became Illegal ? I can only remember a couple of scenarios where it has happened in the past. I think keepers are given far to much protection these days, they can literally get away with anything, I saw a game the other day where a keeper jumped into player, fell over, and the ref gave a free kick to the keeper :/ ... It wouldn't be so bad, but they do have the advantage of being able to catch the ball with their hands, what more do they want ?

It's against the laws so it was rightfully ruled out. Pity really as it was quick thinking and good skill to pull it off...

You think he would know the rules by now. I just used tomake sure I "followed through enthusiasticaly" when taking goal kicks if any players tried that sort of nonsense. I once managed to boot an opposing striker so hard on the thigh he saw stars and the ref told him it served him right for playing silly buggers. Quite right too.

Can't see where anyone said it wasn't disallowed personally.
Best did say he's watched Banks style of kicking the ball for some time hence why he tried what he did.
Similar happened in the Hull v West Ham game recently

im sure cookie did something similar against bradford but the difference was the keeper rolled it on the floor, cookie took the ball and rounded the keeper and scored

It was like Peles goal where he punched the keeper, picked up the ball, stuck it up his shirt and crawled into the goal barking like a dog, bloody genius that.

I hate Van Persie. Thinks he is special and he saw nothing wrong with his act of outright thuggery on our own Sorro. Basically I hate the Arse, so either way it was good to see things go against them. Please take centre stage Mr Whinger.....

It's hardly quick thinking ... the dozy tosser should know the rules. I struggle to understand how people have sympathy for players who break the rules that they are all paid very highly to know. Same goes when all the media who slag off refs for booking players who take their shirts off when they score. They know the crack and deserve what they get. You could argue Van Persie had his foot up and if the keeper had followed through he would have kicked the bottom of RVP foot and possible broke his ankle. That's why it's not allowed.

This one was given though, and was I believe the winner in a 1-0 win...
Scored by Andy Crosby for Forest, against Man City's Andy Dibble in the late 80's/early 90's.
I remember watching this clearly as a young lad, and at School on Monday lunchtime when we played footy, everytime the keeper picked it up people were trying it, even if the goalie had both hands on the ball! ;D
