I replied to a post on another forum by a derby fan who thought stokies were being a bit cocky about the up coming quarter final. My theory was that in my experience stoke fans (especially those over 30) i know have a massive dislike for derby and that a bit of hatred would fuel certain comments. A couple of stokies poured cold water on it by saying they or no-one they know has a problem with derby. Now when i was a regular home and away in the 80/90's everyone i knew despised derby. Has this changed nowadays, i'm not talking about aggro here just good old fashioned footballing revulsion like with man utd and vale. I'm happy to be proved wrong here.... What do you think of derby?

I have no thoughts good or bad about Derby County.
The only thing I would say is that their crowds have been consistently good, regardless of what division they have been in, since moving to Pride Park, which is fair play to them!
Hope that helps your survey! ;D
It will be a tricky game for us, particularly with our cup record, but if we field our strongest team, it is a game we should be favourites to win.

I dont like Derby Cowshit one little bit, And it stems to the 70s and their cocky fans, some of the older ones are still as cocky and big mouthed to this day even though they're shit and hold quite a few unwanted records.

I don't haev a problem with derby at alland I don't think many have. I'd say they were a similar sized club to us though they have obviously enjoyed more success.
At this moment in time our team is better than there team but not by THAT much! If we take them lightly they will win. We've pretty much followed each other up and down the various leagues since the early 70s (when I first started going) with neither team ever being streets ahead of the other at any stage. We were both brilliant in the early to mid 70s!

I have always quite liked Derby to be honest. I know a few of their fans and we have always had good football conversations. Their fans are very similar to ours, just a bit quieter on matchdays.
I remember having great banter with them at the Baseball ground in the 90's. Stoke were losing 4-0 and we scored and started shouting 'we're gonna win 5-4'. They laughed. We scored again and sung the same song, their faces were straight. And we nearly scored again!!! But we didn't.

I was at school in cheadle in the 70's when Derby were winning the league, still never had any Derby fans at school or anywhere else nearby, all Stokies and glory hunters, so little room for rivalries to develop. Some good days out at the old baseball ground mind.

I was born and lived in Waterhouses - virtually right in the middle of Derby and Stoke (miles wise) as a youngster
I think it was the year that they won the title that should have been ours that sticks in my throat to be honest
We went to the Baseball Ground and Sir Jimmy G saw them off with two goals in a 2-1 win that should have secured us the title
It still hurts to this day, but in all fairness to the sheepshaggers from my local community - they accepted that we were a great footballing side in the 70s so I dunner really have a problem with them

Years ago you heard the "We Hate Derby" chant a lot at Stoke, but I haven't heard it for some time.
It's obviously based on a local rivalry that has been diluted by not being in the same league for a number of years now.

My neighbour is a massive derby fan and when they went up and we stayed down the amount of abuse I got was unbelievable. I then had the last laugh! haha Although I would like to have it again.

You never get the last laugh in football, especially when you support Stoke or Derby. Next season will bring a whole new set of circumstances, and the season after, and after that........ Ive been a Stokie a long time now.

VBB,
I tend to associate Cloughie with Forest, despite him winning the league at Derby. If I think back to those days I remember the swamp of a pitch that was The Baseball Ground.
Those young enough not to have seen it simply would not believe that football was played in those conditions, every week of the winter months, season in, season out.

Okey The Baseball was a shithole but we usually did Ok My respect for Cloughie stems from his ability to make Boulton,Durban,Ohare,Carlin,Hinton, Hector and Webster into League Champions + his one liners were fucking brilliant!!

Derby city centres quite nice, bit like that newish street (cant remember when it was opened, that bit what has JJB and Wilko's on it) in Newcastle town centre - not much litter and that
As for the Football club, they can bugger orf!

I used to get annoyed with the media who would label Stoke v Derby as a Midlands derby. I don't regard a game vs them as a local affair. They're just another club IMHO with no strong feelings about them either way. I respect what they achieved in the early 70s - that kind of thing (medium-sized, unfashionable club with limited budget winning the league) will never happen again, which means we will never win the Premiership. At least they can look with some satisfaction at their trophy cabinet. What do we look at - the League Cup and the Watneys Cup, plus a few lower division championships and trophies. Wow!

When you live half way down the A50 like me you have to hate Derby. Especially as I attend Staffs uni at Burton College.
