Cannot believe that a supposed Stokie is telling the world that Rory only does well with his throws, at home, because our pitch has been narrowed, to accommodate them! A genuine Stokie would have known that he threw as far as the most distant goal post, last week, at Wigan, where the pitch is five yards wider than ours. It has been narrowed/shortened, in order to deny pacey wingers their runs. And why not? He isn't as successful away, because he has fewer throw-ins, for obvious reasons and as we have to be prepared for quick breakaways. And before opponents state that we have a broad grass area, pitchside, to help, he is used to a bank, as at OT, or a shorter run up, as at most grounds. He is talented, in this respect. Get used to it.

he is a good footballer as he hhas proved many a time aswell as being able to throw it miles.. the reason he couldn't throw far yesterday is because of the stupid banks

But he did throw it far and they nearly scored an own goal in their panic! He just didn't have many opportunities.

It has been shortened for Delap though. Pulis admitted it at the start of the season!

surreystokie this 'supposed stokie' is actually me! What exactly does supposed mean!? This supposed stokie, follows Stoke home and away, rain or shine, up and down the country, week in, week out.
If you had actually listened to the call properly, you would have heard me saying that Rory's throws are not as effective away from home, but he still has a go and they do work, but not as well, and I think every Stoke fan will agree with me there. Pitches are bigger, and we have less throw's, you are correct.
Secondly, I do feel that our throws have more effect at home due to the pitch, that's my view, it's football we can all have views. Yes, pacy wingers are struggling, that's a valid point. You will have also heard me say that, at home the fans really get behind Rory and that also helps.
Is it really necessary to criticise a fellow Stoke fan, who has expressed his views on a national radio station to the rest of the country!? ???
I await your response.

Surrystokie ,he throw it to the front post he could not get any distance because he needs a run to get forward momentum, sorry but i would not play him on wide grounds yesterday there was no forward planing Pulis should have known about the bank and played a winger instead,no preparation

On the Delap matter as well why the fuck did Pulis leave him on when he was having no joy with the throws and was always in danger of picking up a second yellow?

Potter11 is spot on.
Hate to say it but with pitches like old trafford Rory becomes just an average long throw.

TP was about to take Delap off when Griffin got injured and he had to bring Wilko on instead. Can't answer why he didn't bring Rory off earlier though ...

Fair play OA. Didnt go myself (cannot justify £50 when I'm out of work when it can be far better spent on a 6 pointer ) but on the radio it seemed every 5 minutes that Delap was fouling somebody and running the risk of a second yellow. With Fuller suspended/not being at the game anyway against West Brom to lose Delap would have been stupidity of the highest order.

Rory had a mare on Satdee but to be fair to him it is probably the his fost real shitter of a game this season. He struggled all round and that showed but it wanna just him the whole team were affected and Thomas Sorenson for an Internatinal Keeper to freeze as he did was a bit weird. I think someone suggested earlier that we gave them too much respect both on and off the field all week we should of gone there and give em some shit however it looks like TP was doing a little bit of sucking up to owd fergie Still bring on the fookin baggies.

They're nowhere near as devastating away from home.
Even at stadiums when he can get a run up, away from our subbuteo pitch, they generally drop from pretty unplayable to mildly irritating.
But, even so, they're still one of our major weapons and one of the few times we look like giving the opposition keeper something to worry about, which just shows how largely clueless we've been so far on our travels
We've only scored one away from a Delap bomb, haven't we?
And that required a very meaty flick-on from Kitson.
Did we get many away from home last season?
There was one at Norwich, wasn't there?

FM I think TP has been scared of getting a reet good belting this season, now he has I think he should just go for it away from home. He has only returned 2 points out of our away matches with that return he just might as well say fuck it and let them go and have a pop at the home team. I know we did it a little at Man City and got hit 3 - 0 but hey ho at least we gave it a go.
Come on TP let them have a shot at beating the away team now we have had the walloping.

Yes, this supposed Stokie hasn't missed a game for about 3 years so he does have a small idea of what he is going on about It's quite right that Rory's throws are far more dangerous at home. The pitch has been shortened and he has a huge area of space to make his run up from. If his run up area is smaller, he tends to run at an angle which is far harder for him. There is no doubting that he is very talented at throwing the ball- one of the best in the entire World. If other pitches were as narrow as ours then I'm sure Rory would be just as successful but it does become harder when success requires a healthy flick on (FM is quite right about the Pompey goal). Despite not having heard the conversation on 6-0-6, it would appear that the points are valid.

i dot think we should jus got & have a go, like a previous poster suggested..
looking at the Man.City result it could be a sign of things to come if we play like that every away game..
with it being so tight down at the bottom, we know that in previous years goal difference has been the key to stayin up & going down...
i think containing losses away from home... 1-0, 2-0.. then at home go for gold & see what comes of it...

As I remember it she's a hard core ingerlund follower, probably there right now hanging around the press area looking to bump into/accost a top football journalist. potters11,how dare you challenge the word of one of our resident know it alls, she starts a thread the disappears, shame on you, next thing you will be doing is doubting Ilford and pornside. Like here, that's Brian Glanville to you and me ;D Dallas, I bumped into Brizn, at Man. Piccadilly, and spent a while, in conversation, on the train. He was so enthusiastic about past interveiws with Stan, recalling Steele, Soo etc, that I felt quite old. If you're interested, his collection of footballers' obituaries, has been published in book form
