like it glaringly didnt against Man City, Wigan and Man U, it really shows our attacking ineptness. However, i think its a bit of the chicken or the egg thing. Are there no throw ins in Delaps zone because there is no attacking, or is ther no atacking because there are no throw ins?? OK,im sure everyone is aware that most attacks, shots on goal, corners and even throws usually come from the distribution from the midfielders. Well, in the above mentioned games, and especially yesterday, the midfield was total and complete crap. Someone with a little ball and dribbling skill, passing/distribution skill etc to feed Fuller and Kitson and even Sidibe (although i think he should be one of those midfielders) after all, all the goals Ronaldo scores and he is a midfielder. I think the most glaring of deficiencies is Stokes team is the midfield, they dont slow down the opponents attack and they do nothig for their own. Mr Pulis, Richard frickin Cresswell is not the answer to anything

not sure how much has been made of this but... if you take out this seasons goals from Rory's throw-ins, penalties, and own goals, I calculate that our tally is a paltry.... 1 - Fuller header vs. Bolton 2 - Fuller wondergoal vs. Villa 3 - Delap vs. Spurs errrrmmm that's it. 3 goals from 'open' play. and none from other set pieces ie free kicks or corners.

CBL, you missed Hoyte's og v Boro !!
We have scored 1 goal in the last 10 games from open play.
I'm sure I heard a stat the other day saying we were the only team in Prem not to score from a corner ?
It is a MASSIVE concern.

and the annoying thing is (which has been pointed out many times) is that we have creative players in the squad, Whelan Soares Tongue LL when fit, when we get a dead ball situation lately theres no one with the nous or skill to deliver a telling ball. Whelan has taken 2 direct free kicks v Cheltenham and Rotheram and scored both times. He deserves a chance surely!

CBL, you missed Hoyte's og v Boro !! I counted that in my Own Goals column mate, as well as Jagielka's. Fooking frightening when you look at it, and very very worrying. Summat's got to change.

Ultimately it doesnt really matter how we get the ball in the net, as long as that is happening. If we start to find we dont score from any means, that would be a concern. Stoke wins (and a few draws) are the requirement. Dont get me wrong, Id love to see us scoring from open play, set pieces and corners (off our own players feet/heads etc), but if we're winning games, and we're 17th or higher in the league then Im happy.

Ultimately it doesnt really matter how we get the ball in the net, as long as that is happening. I can see what you're saying but you can't argue with the facts, and those are that we an unable to create a goal out of open play. This is the hallmark of a poor side, set up perhaps in a tactically poor way. If we only scored goals from penalties, would that be OK? We are plastering over the cracks by relying on Rory's bizarre ability to make a throw-in more potent than a corner or free kick. This will only really work at home by the way as our pitch is the size of a 5-a-side one. I'm all for making life difficult for opponents, but we are doing that at a detriment to any other tactic we use. I'm all for getting 40 points on the board to stay up, but to put your head in the sand and pretend things are going well, is madness. God forbid, if Rory breaks his leg against WBA, what's our next ' Special Tactic' to get us goals?

I guess that the point is our goal scoring threat as a team is quite one dimensional and is very dependant on 1 player alone being on the pitch - Delap.
If he gets an injury that is going to keep him out for any significant length of time, we will need a new game plan quickly.
It doesnt look like we have many other successful weapons in our attacking arsenal at the moment. One possible hope is if Liam was playing and playing well, then theres a good chance Fuller (and Kitson maybe) could start to become a potent attacking threat, fingers crossed he'll be back soon!!
