I always travel by car to every away game...some of you may have seen me post a pic of my car before when ive been asked "how do i get back so quick" from the games but i thought i'd try the official coach yesterday seeing as i knew it would be £10 parking and i Presumed they'd have some sort of plan as to how to get us out of the City in a hurry....... And the dirty manc's have quite a rep for nicking quick cars..
What a load of Crap.....
My first moan was the fact some 80year old woman wanted to search my mrs's bag.......Im 32 for fucks sake....what do you think im going to bring on the coach...a bottle of white lightning cider and a some flares......
Then the 80year old "coach stewardess's" had saved all the front seats by placing bags and scarves on them.....for these saved seats the majority of these people didnt turn up till 1minute before the coach left....some couples who had got there a good 30mins before were forced to sit in single seats at opposite ends of the coach due to these "saved" seats.
Then i had some bloke behind me that for the 1hour 20min journey seemed to bring an entire shopping bag full of food...It wasnt just him either....some one actually bought a Curry in a tupaware box that stank like crap right next to me....
We parked went to the match then my nightmare started again.....
When we were about to pull off all the Leons coaches were trying to race each out...i swear they nearly hit each other trying to force each other out of the car park.....I thought "whats the rush" , "we'll get traffic light control all the way out and an escort surely................" Would we fuck.................We were stationary just 100yards out of the car park....and stayed that way for god knows how long.....
The driver seemed totally confused about which lane to pick and how to use an automatic vehicle and kept jerking the bus all over place.....the worse bit of driving however was saved when we came to a roundabout.....imagine a roundabout with a road through the middle.....if you want to turn left or right you use the "roundabout" if you want to go straight on you simply use the straight on road......This CLOWN actually went round the roundabout and went straight on....It cost us another ten mins as i watched all the other "normal" drivers just go straight on....
We finally got back to the M6 and the 80 year old "coach Stewardess's" actually came round for a collection for the driver??????? People were putting pounds in and all sorts , he probably got about £30......Does he not already get a wage??? If we'd got out straight away and he hadnt given me a bad neck with his poor driving i may have put in 50p for putting on radio5live on the radio for us but that'd been it..
And to top it all i was surrounded by idiots talking utter rubbish...
I will never go back on that again.....i'd rather use £50 of fuel and £20 parking than go on that again and i will for the next time....

The coaches are fucking wank. I used to go to every away game on them at one point. The last game I went on the coach was Plymouth away a couple of seasons ago. The fact you can't drink puts me off straight away. But 5 hours of idiot, unknowledgeable football fans being spoken over by Alan Green on Talk Sport was enough to make me attempt suicide when I got back to Stoke. Train all the way now.

Driving is much better and you can have a few tins of Stella while doing 90 in the fast lane without some jobsworth driver telling you that alcohol is banned GD

Used the coaches for about 3 years in the late 1980's.Used to be Bostocks then.Jean used to be courier 1 and John Lawson on No 2.Wonder if they are still doing it.Last time i went on the club coaches was for the Cup game at Fulham last season and that was only because of car trouble at the time.Otherwise much prefer to find own way to away's nowadays. PS Glynn think you are talking about Mabel, she is a lovely old lady and devoted to Stoke City.

Saving seats for 'regulars' is a piss take. If id got there before these other people, and there was two of us, no way would I sit on odd seats whilst these other 'seats' were saved. Id simply ask, if anyone was sitting in the seats with scarves etc on them. If the people werent there, id move the stuff and sit there. What the fuck can they do? We all pay the same fare, so why should others be treated disproportionatly? SGS

Wrong coaches try
Micks from Red House - cheaper, far more sociable and trip includes a good pub stop

My preferred mode of transport has always been the train - though being 50 miles away from the coach pick-up that's hardly surprising But TBH - it's horses for courses..with the official coaches you get what's on the can..for some that offers the type of trip they want...not everyone wants a drink fuelled day out and prefer to share their travel with people losely of the same mind.....fair play For others that's a totally alien day out...again fair play No great surprise then that two ends of the spectrum don't see what the other gets from their day out .If what they offer doesn't coincide with what you expect from a day out, simply don't use them... You wouldn't expect someone to go on one of the coaches with a pub stop to start tutting when the coach pulled up at a pub would you? If you want an A-B , see the match and go home , with usually the minimum of fuss, surronded by likeminded people they're for you...If you want a different style of day out then there's plenty of options...particularly this season...

I dont drink due to my job and its not about the pubs, it was the whole experience..It was just that the experience was nothing like i expected and i wont be using it again......lets not turn this into "i didnt enjoy it because i couldnt get pissed up and shout and jump about", its nothing to do with that if you read my original thread

glyn didn't mean it come over like that...the examples re drink I gave were to illustrate the official coaches are at the far end of one end of the spectrum...there's plenty of other choices spread through the entire spectrum...
But lets be honest ,unless you've lived on the moon for the past 15 years or so you must have heard what a day out on these coaches was likely to be like before you bought your ticket...
Personally have used them in the past , but not regularly and usually as a last resort to save a long drive , particularly for night games ...for many of the same reasons you state
