Looking at Parkin he is obviously over weight, perhaps by a couple of stone. Which leads me to wonder why?
Given that he has had six months to get fit and that his proffession involves training every week and x amount of minutes match football, how much food and ale must you have to consume to still be unfit and carry the excess weight he does?
Which leads to the question: How commited is he to his career and ultimately Stoke City?
Answers on a post card to: I'm big boned, S-O-T ;D

He is an embarrassment to the club and to himself as a professional footballer. It is pretty obvious that Pulis is either incapable of getting him fit or he can't be arsed trying. Tend to think it is the latter.

i can't understand it myself. he has been here six months, nor major injuries this season and he is still a good two stone overweight. surely it would be better if he shed a few pounds and even bulked up with muscle if he wants to stay large. one thing i know is that he may have talent i don't possess to play professional football, but im probably more match fit than him.

I've just done a sum on my little professor, and it reckons that to stay at the weight that parkin does, training for two hours a day, then he must eat at least a lorry full of cream cheese.

I prefer to drink cream cheese, goes down easier and you don't spend as many calories. I'm his personal trainer, can you tell?

Sorry, my little professor only works in cream cheese. You have to get a scientific one to work with other foodstuffs.

It really is shocking and needs addressing.
If the pillock realised how much better he could become as a result of losing 2 stone then he might be arsed to try.
He should be given an ultimatum...Lose the weight or lose your job..
Why the backroom staff have not been able to sort him out is completely baffling.

He had an entire pre season to get fully fit and didn't do so. What was he doing at that time?
He's got some ability no doubt about that but unless he's 100% fit he won't do himself justice. Talk about his best role in the side is irrelevant. A player won't play any role properly when he's so unfit. Apart from a role in the pie shop perhaps.
Perhaps he should just spend all his traning time running.

To quote Mermaidsal on the Parkin Potential thread: I honestly don't think he's that unfit, the point is he's not a natural athlete. He's a big, heavy man and if he suddenly lost two stone he'd just look ill and wouldn't be much quicker. He's got a great touch, a great instinct for goal but he needs a certain type of service and without it he's average at best. Also like almost all strikers he runs on confidence. So, potential yes but it means working to what he's got, not expecting him to turn into Thierry Henry if he lays off the pies...

There are big heavy men and there are overweight men, Parkin is the latter. "he'd look ill "after losing two stone come on he'd look better.

The idea that he wouldn't benefit from shedding some lard is silly. Until he gets fit he will continue to play intermittently.

It's probably a good job he didn't score the other night otherwise every stokie would have offered him a pint when he went the pub and that certainly isn't going to help his fitness!

QUOTE (North Lincs Red @ Jan 9 2008, 4:14 PM) Anyone hazard a guess to how much Jon Parkin (Stoke) must weigh? He must live in a cake shop!
I thought it was Phil Jupitus when he came on for Stoke against the other woooooosh team on sunday!
