The pitch invasion after Sir Stan died - the ref took the players off, and on the restart Peter Thorne came running out and applauded us as if nothing had happened. Made me laugh! Similar result will do Saturday!

were a shit small club who knocked around in the bottom 2 divisions ? yep, thats where they were when I met my other half, if I'd known she was supporting a team that would have to play my team on a regular basis it may have turned out differently

If they dodn't go down this year they'll go down next year. Its a bit of a bleak strugle for the Wigans of the world. It is for us too BUT the people of Stoke are behind SCFC and the people of Wigan aren't arsed.

Joe: Wigan is a really small place, its got a Population of just 80,000 , Bolton is 6 miles down the road , they struggle for crowds because of that , many will cite it being a Rugby league town, thing is Wigan Warriors are (or were) the Man U of the rugby league world and a large proportion of their fans don't even come from wigan .
What is worrying for both teams, is that its the Latics that get the higher crowds these days , by a good few thousand , the good news is that their current position has stopped half a generation of wigan kids from gloryhunting one of the big North West teams

Thank fuck for small merciesFuck me that's odd. The car we were in broke down just short of Knutsford services and we hitched up separately. Came back with Anton and Tony in the van after sitting in a Wigan pub celebrating Bally's demise after the match. Strangest memory of the day was a bloke at the bar, stark bollock naked in celebration of his birthday. Landlord didn't give a stuff. Thats what rugby league does for you I suppose

I remember going there on a Tuesday night i think knowing that if we won we'd go top of the league, and after 5 minutes we went 1-0 up and were going nuts singing 'we are top of the league' then Jeff Winter(remember him!!!) decided that Wigan deserved to win the game, didn't give us another decision all game our heads went and we lost 6-1!!!

I bumped into Anton and MAlly at Liverpool in the main stand, Anton is looking a bit worse for wear these days.

I used to get compos for Springfield park from my girlfriends dad who was a local headmaster, hard to describe to younger fans the grassy knoll. Not unlike the old Stoke End in the Victoria ground in some ways. The last game I remember there was 1-1 i think, the one when The Beest scored from the half way line. Back then, the RL Team were getting about 10k a game and won everything every year by a country mile, I never would have thought I would see the day where the Latics would be getting more than the Warriors.

Sir Stan's day was shocking. It was due to be a day of memorial and celebration and it turned out to be a day when we made the headline's for the wrong reasons (mainly due to Wigan fans) Jimmy's late winner partly made up for it but it really was a dark day.

I remember the fixture following Sir Stan's death. The thing with that day that people seem to forget is that regardless of the news of Sir Stan's death that week the pitch invasion would have still happened. I see to remember the trains up to Manchester being full of 'lads' and you knew that this was going to be an afternoon full of 'incidents'. I believe the Wigan fans had been into Stoke the previous season following a game with Vale and trashed a few of the bars and its punters in Hanley??????? Don't think in all the years of following Stoke I've ever seen so much trouble after the game. Completly mental. Horses running around the concourse trampling over everyone and about 50 riot vans outside of the ground. It was like a bomb had gone off.
Looking back on that day I've got to say how pleased I am that these days are behind us as a football club. I just hope that they don't return but our away attendances rise following the suspension of the away card.
Have we sold 3,000 yet for Wigan?

Mr Starr- For some reason my Mum came up for the game and, because she doesn't like football ( ) she sat in the car while we watched the match. She was in the ASDA car park and as the clocked ticked to about 4.30 she realised everyone had left the car park. It all became apparant when hundreds of people started running towards the car, swiftly followed by horses and riot vans. It was absolute mayhem that day and many will say we 'haven't got them back' for it yet. In the ground, we were sitting near the top and two fellas behind us were so intent on joining the trouble in the bottom corner that they pushed us over the seats to get down there as soon as possible. What goes through the minds of some of these idiots? I hope Saturday isn't the day when we get them back.

It was without doubt the largest away day following of Nutters I'd ever seen. I saw policemen getting pushed down the stairways and trampled on and I saw innocent elderly Stoke supporters getting hit with batons trying to leave the stadium. I remember us getting into the car which we had parked about a mile away from the ground on a pub car park and there were still about 20 riot vans all trying to get to the ground. Complete and utter mayhem. Hopefully as previously mentioned, I hope that these days are behind us and we can go to away games with large numbers of Stokies who sing and cheer the lads on, have a good bit of banter with the home fans and stay out of trouble before during and after the game. I think the Newcastle & Blackburn games in December without the ID cards will show how the Stoke fans will react to the ID card suspension. A Blackburn fan at work thinks we'll get 7,000 tickets for that fixture. Correct me if I'm wrong but the last time we took that many away from home for a league fixture was the Sheffield Wednesday game and that resulted in numerous arrests. We wait and see. I know I'm looking forward to petrol bombing a few pubs for that game and throwing a few darts towards the opposition fans.
