I agree, apart from the first halves and friendlies it's actually worth watching England again. Evidently Fabio knows what he's doing which is astonishing when you consider he's the England manager.

Have we kept a clean sheet yet?

Yes, against the MIGHTY Andorra. Who cares, the only other team to have won all their games are Spain and we've got better goal difference.

I like Capello and the results are good but England don't do it for me. I used to get excited but I don't now. Even tonights highlights bored me and thats just wrong. Mclaren took it out of me and its not back yet.

Great to be winning games again and a relief to be going into the new year with a good chance of qualifying.
The point has to be madethough that our defending can be really gormless. How he just ghosted in for that goal was dreadful. It needs work.

How he just ghosted in for that goal was dreadful. It needs work. Its what happens when Brown and Upson are in the same defence! ;D Mclaren and the FA killed it for me. Stevie Wonder could see that appointing Mclaren was the wrong thing to do. But they still did it. These people in power do make me wonder!

The reason McClaren was there was because some people insisted the manager had to be English.

The reason McClaren was there was because some people insisted the manager had to be English. That and the FA wanted a yes man. I never understood those wanting an English manager. Scolari, Hiddink, O'Neil, Cappello were all better options than Mclaren.

Scolari said he wanted it but the FA for some reason insisted the announcement be made before the World Cup. They have never ever explained why. O'Neill was interviewed and never got a reply or any contact from the FA after it. Not even a rejection.
Unbelievable appointment. Look what Fabio's doing with the same players. That sums it all up.

A blind man on a galloping horse could see that. Shame the F.A. didn't. It makes you wonder if F.A. does actually stand for Fuck All.
I'm coming back to watching England, slowly mind. I used to go to every home game, I've found it hard to sit in front of the TV some times. It will be interesting how we go on against Germany next month, that will be the acid test.

Yes. I know Germany is only a friendly but it'll be a good pointer to how far we've come.

We are, are we not, the very model of Italian officiency! I thought we were a bit sleepy in defense, possibly without Terry to keep 'em all in line? I thought Fat-Frankie was as anonymous as normal, but that StevieG had one of his best games for the country in a long, long while. Rooney should be listed as a national treasure and Heskey played very well indeed. But Wallcott could do with benching for SWP (to keep both on their toes). Nice to see the ex-Skipper still getting a run out, will he make it through to the 2010 finals? (I reckon he may well still be doing short cameos even then). Top stuff England ... just hope we pick up where we left off in 6 months time. ah

Good to have Rooney scoring again. On form he remains one of those players who can impose his quality on a game and turn it in our favour.

again we were much better in the 2nd half under Capello, Croatia, Kazakhstan, Belarus all examples of this. this shows we're much fitter under Capello

Was disappointed when he hit the post....Should of nailed that (or passed) but yeah....good to see him work his magic wearing an England shirt again. Well chuffed for Rooney! Lets hope he keeps the goals coming!

One thing that our improved 2nd half appearances does show, IMHO, is that Capello can tweak things to correct mistakes being made without pushing a panic button and making wholesale changes - he appears very tactically sound.

It has to be said, he does look the man for the job, but learning from past expereinces i shall not be counting my chickens before they've hatched, and i certinaly won't be betting on them to get to the final. Will never forgive those muppets that failed to qualify for the euro's, i was in lanzarote that night and it ruined my holiday!

Sometimes it is hard for supposedly good teams to play well against the lessers teams.
the days of beating the likes of luxembourg and san marino etc 8-0 are gone. Similar in the our cup competitions you dont see giants regulary beating minnows by similar scorelines

First half we were poor (despite the excellent goal) but second half we came out and we dominated. Played some good football and Rooney's second was fantastic.
Gerrard had a good game as well (and I thought he should have been dropped because Lampard and Barry looked very good). He was getting into positions he does for Liverpool and wanted the ball as well.
Beckham to get his 126 caps and beat Shilton???

In the last 3rd England look dangerous- midfield were anonymous at times. Barry a waste of space- need a holding player in that role. Are Upson and Brown both worthy of World Cup appearances? Both nowhere near good enough IMHO and Bridge not much better.
There were times when Belarus bossed the midfield and when England won possession they gave it away so easily. A better side would have punished England but a decent result after a much improved second half.

Upson & Brown dont want to see them come tournament time but have no problem with playing them (& many others) between now & summer 2010 if thats what it takes to qualify
horse for course approach is very sensible imho.
equally Heskey or Crouch are essential against the minnows & the middle ranking sides.

Funny to see Harry Redknapp gobbing off about the under-21s in the press today after his anti-Capello rant post-Andorra has left him looking quite the twat. Saying today how there's nobody who impresses him in the under-21s...in spite of the fact that they're unbeaten in 27 games.
