At least two Football League clubs are believed to be tracking Bishop's Stortford FC striker Greg Pearson as the January transfer window opens. Scouts from Championship strugglers Colchester United and League One side Southend United were at Woodside Park on Boxing Day, with the Colchester man returning on Saturday. Plymouth Argyle and Stoke City are also believed to have looked at Pearson earlier in the campaign. Pearson hit a rich vein of form during December, scoring 11 goals in the Blues final five games of the month, including all four in Saturday's 4-0 victory against Cambridge City at Woodside Park, and he continued that run of form with Stortford's only goal in Tuesday's 2-1 loss at Braintree. Saturday's four-goal salvo was the striker's third hat-trick of the campaign, having scored trebles in the 6-2 league victory against Hampton & Richmond and the 8-0 FA Trophy demolition of Canvey Island. "Since Canvey he has been on fire and I would expect anyone that scores 25 goals to get interest," said Blues boss Martin Hayes. "They have to make a decision on him then come and talk to us, but we aren't in a rush to push him anywhere." The 22-year-old former West Ham United trainee joined the Blues in February 2007 after a disappointing spell at Rushden & Diamonds, and scored seven goals in 17 appearances as Stortford reached the play-offs. He seemed set to return to full-time football in the summer, but a late change of mind saw him return to Woodside Park on a two year contract. That decision certainly seems to have paid off, with 26 goals in 27 games this season. "People had the chance to sign him in the summer, but walked away and he is doing what we expected him to," said Hayes. "At the moment he is is not going anywhere and nothing definite is going on, but if a league club came along it would be harsh to stand in his way. That's what you play football for." The Blues would receive a fee if Pearson moves on. Stortford's current record transfer fee stands at £20,000 which they received from Dagenham & Redbridge in the summer of 2004 for Glen Southam. I saw him play for an hour against Bromley FC earlier in the season. He came on as a sub after an early injury. He never got a look in and Lillywhites centre back Tutu Henriques had him in his pocket all afternoon. Stortford also had the most irritating away supporters seen all season. A dozen fuckers with a drum and a trumpet they couldn't play. Caused a bit of trouble at the end trying to slap the Bromley keeper as he got his things out the back of the net. The fracas has in turn lead to a 'drinking on the terraces' ban that was only rescinded four weeks ago. Wankers.
