Whilst not doubting you guys that he may be a good player, i personally haven't seen much of him to form an opinion.
Have any of you seen for definate that he's all that, as everyone on this message board appear to think he's the be all and end all of midfielders we need.
All i remember of the game at home a few weeks ago was Kav bossing the midfield. I didn't pay no special attention to watch Whelan that day, maybe i missed something. Where else have you guys seen Whelan play so well? Do Sheffield fans think he's the top man?
Would he complement Diao and does he get loads of goals from midfield? Or would that be two centre midfielders that we get no goals from all season?
Like i say, if we do get him and he turns out to be a great player all well and good, but i think i'm the only one on here who appears to have missed watching him and raving about him.

tinyurl.com/2wvn5wtinyurl.com/32pnbtThe majority of the Wednesday fans seem to have gone a bit cold about his performances and potential this season, but I seem to remember they rated him highly last season, possibly their best player behind Brunt? The fact he can go for nothing in the summer could mean he's cheapish too.

He's seemed a decent player when I have seen him. To be honest I am not sure many of us are qualified to judge players of other clubs unless we have seen them regularly. I wasn't doing cartwheels when I heard we were signing Shawcross or Higgy but I was gald we did once I had seen them play for us. On the other hand Wright looked to be a promising signing based on what I had seen of him in the past - now I am delighted he has gone back to Sunderland.

I much prefer it when we are linked to a player most people say he is a useless injury prone has been ;D

He wasnt good in the game @ the Brit this season but I have seen him on TV all of twice & he looked very good - creative (i.e. he can pick out a pass) midfielder but not your usual TP type in that he isnt going to 'bomb' about the pitch.
Weds fan @ work raves about him - reckons he was in the £3 - £4m bracket.

That's my point to be honest. I haven't seen one post on this board or the old one from anyone saying don't buy him. Most are saying he is the priority signing we need. How many goals does he get from midfield to complement the holding role of Diao?
Maybe he just get's the odd few but his vision to pick a pass can open up the defence for Fuller or Earnshaw!!! to run onto. Anyone know anything about his goalscoring?

My best mate is a Sheff Wed fan and he believes that Whelan is a Premiership player in the making.
When I have seen him play (mainly on TV) he does seem a very good player
I would be delighted if we got him on board
He is certainly a name that keeps getting mentioned so I'm sure there is something in it

he would be fantastic for us as a club, he was the republic of ireland u-21 captain and and is still young, i know a couple of sheff wed fans and they both say that he is their best player by a mile, along with "jj"(johnson, right winger) , they also say that he has the quality to easily adapt to the premiership.
if we got him i wouldnt be suprised if he was given the captains armband within a couple of months, would be great for our future.
the word which comes to mind is "quality"
