i keep hearing on here, the radio, and at the ground either these two players should play left midfield/ wing. But i have to dissagre
Danny Pugh - personally i think he has been fantasic at left back, and i would even say has been playing better than griffin did for us last year, HOWEVER, I don't think he is the option at left mdfield, i think the lack of pace is the reason, as left back i think hes superb, but not as leftmidfield.
Demar Phillips - i think he is too lightweight, yes he apparently plays well in the reserves, but in the reserves he plays against boys, in the senior team he would play against men and thus i think he is too lightweight, hopefully he will prove me wrong but we will have to wait and see!
A winger with genuine pace is a must if we are to go up we need an outlet on the left a player who will beat his man and get a good cross into the box. Don't get me wrong i think Cresswell has done a fantasic job but his role should lie up front, however atm he is the best left midfield we have in my opinion.
Thoughts?

Agree with Pugh at left back and i think Demar should be given a chance because if we dont give him the chance how the hell are we ever gonna know if he is up to it or not.

I'm getting a bit pissed off with this lightweight argument, I don't think weight has anything to do with being a winger. He's either good enough or not.
Name all these successful heavyweight wingers and compare them to the list of fast little buggers who play in the wing position. If you can ride a tackle then weight has nowt to do with it. End of!!

Not sure. Danny has played well as left back, but some may suggest his natural attacking instincts may be better suited in the midfield.
Demar has plenty of pace and is not afraid to run at players... could be a useful change and have cresswell up front..... but i think his is probably "over enthusiastic" and will overrun or lose the ball. His overall awareness is not his strong point so needs time to learn to link up with his team

DP or not DP, that is the question.................

if he was good enough he would have played though!
and what are people basing there arguments about Phillips, i.e where have people seen him play?

DP or not DP, that is the question................. definately worth a go!!! The problem is TP has a system with Sidibe and Fuller that works reasonably well. Cresswell has also moved in with a few of his own goals..... so i would only play demar when fuller is not available (for now) and cresswell moves centrally

Having just seen Hull's goal on Central Soccer Night, you have to say that the silence has been deafening from some of our message board experts regarding our full back being beaten at the far post for that goal.
I can think of another full back who was at the club not so long ago who would have been fucking slaughtered for that goal.
Anyway, it's a no brainer. Dicko at left back, Pughy left midfield and Cressy up front.

Hoefkins was beaten in the air by 5ft 5 Ian More, Pugh was beaten by 6ft 6 caleb Folan theres a big diference!!

What we are missing here is when Pugh played on the wing he wasnt actually very good and when he was put at left back he has put in some decent performances.

hes 24, looks like a good player (better than our other options at the moment) and we aint even playing him... so the reason we have signed him is....

Based on the fact he plays for his national team.........i was sad enough to ask on a Jamaican MB ( Reggae boys or something like that ) about Demar and they couldn't understand why he wasn't playing regular at Stoke. He warrants a chance, what more can he do than perform in the reserves at the moment if that has been his only opportunity?

i would agree that there is only one way to find out, however he must not be doing good enough in training because he hasn't even been sub in recent weeks.

Tony Pulis' mind works in mysterious ways. I mean do you really think his son, Parkin and Pericard deserve a place on the bench ? Let alone Lewis Buxton......he is in my eyes an attacking option, more so than our 2 super strikers on the bench, but scoring hasn't been our problem this season so i suppose you can't complain........but theres always room for improvement right?

It certainly does. I've never entered a debate on DP because I've not seen him play but I agree that surely he's a better option than any of those you mentioned Parkerson. If he isn't then why did we sign him?

Good question OS. The fee was apparently six figured so he didn't come on the cheap, and Pulis also mentioned that Fuller had said Demar was a real talent and it means something if Fuller says that, strange he doesn't want to find out.

Presumably Fuller & Phillips, having played together for Jamaica, should have a good understanding of each other's style of play - another reason to give him a run out, I'd have thought.

Demar isnt going to start until next season (if @ all) - that much is clear.
TP has, imho, decided to play him in the reserves & the odd 1st team appearance from the bench all season to get him used to our game.

To be fair Davef
Most of us recognised that Hoofers was a decent player - we just didn't think he was God and didn't use him as a pawn like the Pulis Hating Wankstains just so they could have a pop at the manager.
I'd have Hoofers over Wright any day of the week but there are better right backs. Didn't exactly set the world alight against us did he?
Dicko isn't the answer.
As for Pugh, he should never have been picking him up. Either Cort or Shawcross should have made sure they were picking up Folan.
'Liam is ace' fucked up for the goal and all of the defending after that was pretty poor.

Pugh was easily outmuscled by Folan on saturday, but the question is why was Wright so out of posiytion, why did Cort stroll across and not get in quickly to close down and not allow the cross, and why did Shawcross leave Folan to Pugh? Bad defence play all round. I would have liked to see Demar given the last 10 minutes instead of Pericard or Zakuani as we were at home and wanted a win.

I would hazard a guess that the reason for Demar not being picked will be more to do with the defensive side of his game. Sure it's all good and well playing for Jamaica but Jamaica aren't exactly world beaters are they (currently 97th in the FIFA rankings), they tend to have many flair player but ship goals at an alarming rate.
It's would be nice to have him running at players but in this division he also needs to get back and help out with defensive duties.
I do however think he should be used as a 'super' sub in the last 10 minutes as all teams hate to see the introduction of a fast pain in the butt winger when they are already knackered.

Demar should be given the chance to play in a few matches, only then can we see if he's good enough or not. Give him 5 games playing 90 minutes - it will also help him adapt to the style of play and give him experience.
The "lightweight" argument doesn't stick with me - he's a winger and should be fast and nippy. I've never seen any 6'8" wingers weighing 20 st who has had any success. Why not use Parkin on the wing if weight is a problem ?

I'd say that Hoefkens was used just as much as a pawn by the Manager Can Do No Wrong Brigade as he was by the Wankstains. And that's borne out by the lack of criticism that Pughy got for his part in the goals against Barnsley and Hull.
I'm not having a go at Pugh here, personally I quite like him, and I'd much rather compliment Folan on his ability to peel off to the back post and get a header in against a back-tracking full back than criticise our player, but the lack of comment from certain people who couldn't wait to jump on a Stoke player's back for the slightest of mistakes sums them up for what they are.
Dicko may or may not be the answer, but currently I'd prefer to see him at left back, allowing Pugh to play a more positive role in the team and Creswell to play in his natural position.

Thing is Dave, Pughy looked fairly rubbish on the left of midfield and has been pretty decent at left back. Dicko always seems (to me at least) to be cacking himself whenever he plays.
I see what you're saying about his role in Hull's goal, but one of the centre backs should have been looking after Folan.

West Brom fans don't seem to rate him in the same way as the PHW's did. At the time there was some astronmical fees going around for defenders which made the fee look small but with every passing day it looks more and more like a decent deal to me.
