i thought he woulda featured from off the bench against hull or plymouth, maybe even 15mins in both games to help speed the process up.
he must be fit enough for 10 - 15 mins of football and surely was a better option than little anthony.
surely he'l be on the bench for sunday though??

STOKE CITY: BLOW FOR CLUB AFTER NEW DIAO SETBACK Be the first reader to comment on this story
09:40 - 03 January 2008
Stoke City midfielder Salif Diao has aggravated his troublesome left knee, and should find out the extent of the injury today.
Diao felt soreness on the side of his knee after he joined in with full training last week.
The 30-year-old completed the training session and travelled with the first-team squad to face Plymouth last Saturday, but his comeback was shortlived.
Diao explained: "I was in full training and my knee felt a bit unstable. I felt a little crack on the outside of my knee which was not caused by impact.
"It was sore for about 10 seconds, but I got through it and I thought I could play a match.
"I travelled to Plymouth, but when I woke up in the morning the knee felt sore so I went to hospital to have an MRI scan.
"The scan report should come back today. But I don't think it is anything major and it might only set me back a week."
Diao insists he could even be ready for City's mouth-watering FA Cup third-round clash with Newcastle United on Sunday, having continued strengthening work on the knee this week.
However, Stoke assistant manager Dave Kemp was a little more cautious. He said: "Salif had a bit of a knock-back last week, but he is positive about it.
"I'm sure he won't have a problem with it when he comes back to the main group to train, although we haven't set any targets for him."
After spending much of last year playing through injury, Diao is determined to enjoy a more prosperous 2008 after signing an 18-month deal to rejoin Stoke last month.
He explained: "It was disappointing getting injured, but the leg is really strong now. I'm looking forward to the new year."
Having already sold close to 20,000 tickets for Sunday's FA Cup clash with Newcastle, Stoke fans are reminded they have until 5.30pm on Saturday to buy their tickets. They will not be on sale on match day.

The last thing we need is this scan turning up something long-term.

As a veteran of four knee ops on the same knee myself, it sounds like he may well have just done a bit of a cartilage. A quick arthroscopy and he will be in full training within a week or two. It doesn't sound like a recurrence of the ligament damage he had before.

Whatever happens the last thing we need do is rush him and completely fuck his knee up again!! Couldn't agree more. I know we need him now but better to be sure he is fit than chance causing an even longer term injury. And at Salif's age it could be a career threatening one. We need a fully fit Salif until the END of 2011 (if not longer!!).

Like previously said, there is no point in rushing Salif back.
It would seem very stupid to contemplate playing him against Newcastle following this news. Perhaps pop him in the reserves and maybe have him on the bench against Ipswich or Preston?
Salif is a very talented player but given his record with injuries we can't really expect him to be playing every game over the enxt 18 months so we need to get adequate cover in or a very good partner in the middle of the park so we do not suffer from his loss too much
