I've read on a few news sites that Laurent Robert is out of contract and is being linked with a move to Ipswich.
Since leaving Newcastle he's been at Benfica and Levanté.
As a pacey left winger, he'd seem ideal to me to replace Cresswell on that side and allow a move upfront replacing Mama.
He was exciting as anything when he played in this country, and at 32 must still have games left in him.

Yes mate, but Tony will always take the view that experience in certain positions is more valuable than youth, and we are unlikely to see that change.
He also likes players who can play in more than one position, as he beleives all good players should be able to do this.
Based on these I reckon he might fit the bill, but as I've not seen him play for 3 yers or more, he could be dog-slow by now.

Please God know!!! - his drive, commitment and application would put him on a par with Parkin and Pericard.
Lazy, show pony, well past his best who has only played 26 games in last 2-3 seasons.

Robert has looked ok for Levante and would be good for Stoke.
Certainly no worse than the rubbish we have in midfield.

Signing a player of his quality would signal our intent, and a contract to the end of the season for a player available for free would hardly break the bank.
Godo - there was a fella who used to sit near me who reckoned that Hookey was "nowt but a show pony". It seems a blanket label for anyone with an ounce of skill. Roberts problem at Newcastle was that he refused to tackle back, so I think Tony would steer well clear.
It was only an idea.

MrMagic, I for one agree that Robert COULD be the type of player to take us forward. However Pulis seems to be shying away from this type of player as demonstrated by his reluctance to use Phillips under any circumstances. A lot depends on the system he's going to employ in these final critical last few months without Sidibe for part of it and somehow, I can't see him taking any chances with a player who won't track back and add something defensively to the team.
