Why should we.
People die every minute, but life goes on.
Why should we mourn someone we never heard of?
???????????

Why should we. People die every minute, but life goes on. Why should we mourn someone we never heard of? ??????????? . Well, it was a footballer rather than some person in the news. So I could at least agree with it more. Ken Bigley, anyone? Also the Soham schoolgirls, Pope John Paul II and the victims of the Asian tsunami have got nothing to do with football. I go for the game and some beer not for a remembrance service.

Bradwell,
Who chooses which deaths deserve respect though?
It isn't a lack of respect that causes people to question these silences/applauses.
Some of us realise that every person on this planet is just that, a person, so why does one deserve the applause any more than another? (except in extreme cases of course).

I'm not sure why the players didn't even wear black armbands yesterday out of respect for a fellow professional?
In fact, the only player who did wear one was Richard Creswell, who played with Phil O'Donnell at Sheffield Wednesday.

Should all electricians wear a black armband if a fellow electrician they've never met before were to die?
It's all a bit silly really. He was a human being, just like the rest of us.

Maybe if it was Scottish football, then we would have done.

Why should we mourn someone we never heard of? ??????????? absolute knob-head you are, cunts like you that make going football a pain in the arse. it would have been the right thing to do to have a minutes silence for a player,no matter if he was scottish, welsh or wot. but at the end of the day its upto the players, and seeing that hull already had a minutes applause on sunday when they played sheff wed, stoke prob thought it would be right not to do it again. certainly wouldnt mourn you if you lost your life fella

Would Hull have had one if they had played anyone else apart from Sheff Wed? It was tragic but if lets say Clive Clarke had died,do you think Motherwell would have a minutes applause?

Lets have a minute silence for every person who dies from now on !

I understand the sentiment but it should be limited to people who have given the club good service and that should include ex-players, directors, managers etc.
Awful tragedy for his family right enough and I daresay a fair few 'Well fans were quite upset too, but he had no link to Stoke so, as someone else has pointed out, where do you draw the line?
Minute's applause for that youth who died at Walsall? If not why not?

Some of us realise that every person on this planet is just that, a person, so why does one deserve the applause any more than another? (except in extreme cases of course). Unfortunately, the news agenda decides. Just like it decides if dogs are dangerous this week, to report everything getting lost, or whether we are likely to die from a flesh eating disease, MRSA or Bird Flu.

certainly wouldnt mourn you if you lost your life fella Well ........... thanks for your reasoned debate So, now let me get this clear ... you won't mourn my death, but you're furious that I didn't want to mourn someone else who died, that we didn't know? ???

i thought a minutes applause/silence would of been done yesterday, it was a tragic death of a player doing a sport which we pay money to watch. its respect.

Or Paris St. Germain? I feel sorry for the guy but when all said and done he was playing in a different country and he had absolutely no connection whatsoever to Stoke City.

As tragic as it was and as much as my heart goes out to his family and friends i think it was right that there was no minute silence or applause, as someone has said there was no connection to the club and I would hazard a guess that 99% of stoke fans didn't know who he was, it would be fake emotion, the only connection is that he was a footballer, but we didn't have a minutes silence for that QPR player did we ? there have been lower league players who have died and we didn't have a tribute for them.

Keep it realistic--no connection--no tribute Agree, but that makes one question why the minutes applause at Premiership games? I thought that Sheff Weds was the only English club he'd played for.
